Headed down to Augusta for the first time on Monday, leaving from Charlotte. Looking for any advice on where to park , what to do when there, and anything I need to know heading down there. . Will obviously walk the course, hang out in Amen Corner, etc.

Any input is appreciated.

I suggest getting there early and walking the entire course before you even watch a golf shot. Start on #1 and and just walk and take it in. TV does not do that place justice...truly surreal.

I like to walk the course backwards. Usually sit between the 11th green and 12th tee tro see both greens.

Don't take your significant other - you'll never get your yard good enough!

if the ground is wet wear spikes if you have them and then point and lol at the rich snobs with giant mud streaks from falling

  • Both times I've just parked on the grounds and walked in. Just letting you know because you'll probably get a lot of suggestions on where to park. Never had a problem on the grounds.
  • Go to the store early and spend more than you planned on spending. You will still wish you bought more when you get home. Have them hold your stuff for you at bag claim and pick it up on your way out at the end of the day.
  • Take chairs and claim a spot early in the day. Nobody will touch them/move them. We like to set up chairs on the left side of the 18th green, near the bunker.
  • After you claim a decent spot (somewhere on 18 or 9 since it's right by the clubhouse) walk the course. One year I walked it 1-18 and the other 18-1, but walk the entire course, you'll have plenty of time to sit and watch golf the rest of the day. You won't believe that place. Pictures and television don't come close to seeing it in person.
  • We normally head back to either 18 or 9, wherever we set up chairs and eat lunch or sit for a while just to rest after walking the course.
  • In the afternoon I spend most of my time in Amen Corner or on 16. Both are awesome places. To state the obvious, you aren't up close and personal in Amen Corner like you can be on some other holes, but watching approach shots on 11 and the tee box at 12 at the same time is a great spot. Also walk down 13 to really get a feel for that dogleg and watch those approach shots.
  • You didn't go to Augusta if you didn't cheer for and watch some guys skip it on 16.
  • The back 9 will be crowded. If you're looking for a break in the crowd, you can really get in some good spots back on 2,3,4,5,6.
Extremely jealous of you. Not able to go this year and I already miss it. The most beautiful place on Earth.

1. Get there early 6:30 ish
2. Tons of free public parking, just get on Washington Road and they will direct you to your free parking spot.
3. DO NOT think you are going to sneak your phone in the gates. You will just have to turn around and walk all of the way back to your car to leave it there. Getting on the property is similar to getting on an airplane, empty your pockets, go through a couple of metal detectors, etc. NO PHONES
3. They will allow you onto the property around 7am but won't open the gates to the course until 8. I usually do my shopping then and either take it back to my car or have them store it for me. By the time I am done with that the gates are about to open.
4. If you have never been before, I highly recommend walking the entire 18 holes right of the bat. As was mentioned above TV doesn't do this place justice. You will definitely want to see all 18.
5. Enjoy your day!

Here are a couple pictures I took with my GoPro a couple years ago. This is the 16th green where you can watch them skip the balls across the pond. When I was there I believe it was Mike Weir that had a hole in 1 skipping it across.

Then you just turn around and watch them tee it off on 17.

One of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. Take it all in! I wish I could go back!!!

Some great advice here; make sure you walk the entire course. I like to go 18->1. You'll see every group on the course, but however you approach it, you'll be amazed. It may well be the most beautiful 'garden' on earth.

Whatever you do don't listen to the guy above regarding wearing golf shoes. It's almost the same thing as wearing a grown man's jersey at a sporting event. Don't be that guy.

What he said. Go set your chair down below the grandstand to the right of 15 green and then go walk the course. Even though it's expensive, get some merchandise. Be prepared to do a ton of walking. Also maybe go walk by where some of the iconic shots have been hit. Bubba'so gap wedge on 10, Tiger's chip in on 16 (which is literally impossible), etc...

Wear a white painters suit underneath your clothes, once you get your chair set up, go into the bathroom and strip off your outer clothes, put on a green Masters hat and then go take a private tour of the grounds...no one will stop you.

Best Day EVER!

Be prepared to drop cash in the gift shop you will want to buy everything.
Go to Hooters afterwards.

Take your Iphone and take as many pictures as possible. Also get a pimento cheese sandwich and put in your pocket before you walk the course after it heats up your will have a nice toasted snack.

Sorry I had a sour morning.
For a Monday, I would get there at a decent time like 9 or 10 am and use the free parking off Washington road. If you come from I20 it pretty close to your exit. I would hit the merchandise tent and have everything shipped back to your home. Next I would walk the course to get a feel for how much the elevation changes. When you get to 16 watch the pros skip a ball across the pond. I would enjoy the course and the nature around you. The golf will not be that great as most of the golfer get into town that day and only play a quick nine.
Before you leave to get a feel for how much money and power the ANGC has check out the practice range. This range used to be the parking lot. It got converted into a range because 10 years ago there was a rain delay and there was not enough room for all the golfers to warm up. As you are walking back to your car in the free parking think about how this used to be neighborhood that the Masters bought out so no pro golfer would have to wait to warm up. As you are driving out of town think about how much money was spent to buy out every home owner with out using ED.

I would also recommend leaving your drunk jelly belly embarrassment of a brother at home... If you got one that is

How long are you here for? Feel free to PM me for suggestions as I live a mile from Magnolia Ln
