I would like some feedback on ceramic grills like the Kamado Joe and Big Green Egg versus gas grills like Weber if you don't mind. After eight years of solid use, my gas grill finally rusted out and I am back in the market for a new grill. I have read so many good things about the Kamado Joe/BGE that I am considering going in that direction, but I am still hesitant to pull the trigger on a charcoal-based grill given the ease of use of a gas grill. Do you have any experience with kamado grills versus gas grills?
We typically only grill things like steak, chicken, burgers, wings, veggies and shrimp, although I would love to get into ribs, brisket, etc. I just need to take the time and start learning. Should I stick with the convenience and familiarity of a gas grill, or is it worth going with a ceramic kamado for arguably better taste and versatility? Would the charcoal kamado take a lot longer to prep and heat up? I understand that the cost of the ceramic kamado grills are on the high end (would go with a Kamado Big Joe or Classic Joe), but so is the Weber Genesis (stainless steel version) that I would get as a gas grill. So, the initial cost isn't much different, and both should hold up well over a number of years. Thoughts? (I could go with both gas and charcoal down the road, but at first I will stick with just one main grill.)
