OT - Dangers of the Political Divide on COVID-19

Liberty University - against the better judgment of medical experts - decided to reopen after Spring break. As an article in the NYT noted, “For critical weeks in January and February, the nation’s far right dismissed the seriousness of the pandemic. Mr. Falwell derided it as an “overreaction” driven by liberal desires to damage Mr. Trump.”

So to stick it to liberals, Falwell reopens the campus.

What happens? COVID-19 is spreading through the campus. Falwell now orders students returning to campus to self isolate for 14 days.

Coronavirus doesn’t care whether its next victim is a conservative or a liberal. A young student or an elderly grandparent. While it doesn’t deserve our respect, we had better treat it seriously.https://nyti.ms/2UKAmlh

There is a difference between 20+-year old students who, historically, have shown questionable judgment, and the president of a university who really should know better.

Right, but one crucial difference is those people are young and impetuous. I don't condone their behavior but i'm not going to sit here and say I wouldn't be that cavalier about this at that age. Falwell's an adult in a leadership role, yet he's acting like those 19 year olds going to spring break, and he has a much more powerful voice than all of them combined.

I agree with part of your post. Yes, they're idiots...but in addition there is a large population of people who were (and some still are) out and about because they were listening to the daily garbage / opinions that Trump was spewing for about a month while the experts were shouting a VERY different message into the wind from the rooftops. That's not political. That's simply the truth.
