I find this series to be extremely interesting. Just now catching up on season 2 that I missed in the fall. Assuming that this investigation is legit - which I am assuming - they have found some incredibly interesting evidence/leads. It's well known that leading Nazi's escaped justice to all parts of the world so who knows where this leads.

Great cast with some serious credentials also. Not like those clowns dry humping empty holes on that curse of oak island show!? Love me some WWII history so this is popcorn TV for me.

Thoughts from others who have watched?

I can't wait for the crossover special

I assume that circus clowns wrapped in toilet paper is probably your thing then.

Caught the first 4 episodes on a marathon during a bad weather Sunday a few weeks ago and am hooked. It's plausible.

Without having watched it, I'll say right now I have my doubts. The History Channel, as well as Discovery, TLC, and multiple others, even the smithsonian channel, gave up on airing shows built on firm facts a long time ago. Now these channels would rather air shows that are based in entertainment, loose speculation, and fringe theories at best. I'm not saying this show doesn't have facts or that it qualifies for all three of those, but I view all their shows now with a great deal of skepticism.

Not that this makes me very qualified either, but I doubled in college in history and business administration, and your average history student in college puts in far more work as far as fact checking, who they use as sources and how they vet them, how they build their primary, secondary, and tertiary sources and every step of the research process than these shows do.

These shows are entertainment, not hard hitting facts and history. If these shows and their research were serious, you would have heard about it from somewhere other than the history channel first. It's like when discovery was "on the hunt for megalodon," it was BS.

I like this show, it is interesting, but I do not buy it. They roll up on an abandoned house in the words and immediately, "I can not see how this could have been built for anyone but Hitler". Or they knock of the door of some local after hearing about them from a guy on the street and they have this story about seeing a u boat and Hitler stepped out of it. If the research is real, then it is incredible, but I worry that it is a bit to incredible

I like the show, watch every episode, yet scoff at much of it. Think I must be a douchebag. Seriously though, can't deny they've found some interesting Nazi operations post WW2 in S America. It'd be more honest to me if the title wasn't Hunting Hitler, then again, who would watch it?

Weird pet peeve-Why are random sentences blacked out in the files they show? They'll show a sentence like "The officer reported that Martin Borman boarded a plane in Spain heading for Argentina." But, randomly, the next line will be blacked out and I wonder if under the black the document says, "So we shot the bastard's plane down over the Atlantic, miraculously found his body in the water, cut him into 100 pieces and mailed him to the remaining Nazi leaders who were hiding in Argentina just so they'd know we'd do the same to them if they dared pop their heads up."

I watched a series on WW2 put out by Smithsonian. They said Georgie commanded 9th Army. I mean come on.

I haven't seen yet what yall are talking about. If it involves Hitler living out his life somewhere else I call bullshit.

That Dr of his had him so full of shit he had about 6 months to live. Plus they think from the arm switch he had Parkinson.

The more time passes, the more history changes.

yeah I realize that It's TV and most of it is staged to a large extent. They already knew these places/documents/people existed, but the discovery is staged for the purposes of surprise/drama/TV. Based on old Adolfs health condition at the end of WW2 I have no doubt he died as is reported from suicide. agree the name of the show is misleading as well as some of their comments about him potentially having "been here".

His minions however, including some of the most high ranking, (Bormann, Heinrich Muller, SS, scientists, etc), definitely disappeared and either went to work for the US, Russians, or disappeared to Spain/South America or god knows where. Would be interested to know how much the US public knew at the time about how many former Nazi scientists helped put America on the moon? #OperationPaperclip

It's a great show. Who knows what really happened. Doesn't really matter now, except some will probably claim that Trump is Hitler's lost love child. jk.
I do like the show, seriously.

The downside of academic history is that historians are constantly looking for "new discoveries" to put themselves on the map. Many times there's nothing new to discover and the truth of the matter only gets blurred.

Great post.

We'll never know the real truth, but I've always wondered what he found in Antartica. It prompted us to start Operation Highjump.

You have to really do a lot of research to find this, but upon learning that Hitler "discovered something in Antartica" it's MY OPINION that the US did not want Hitler to have whatever it was. War started, we killed the guy and then less than a year later went to Antartica where Hitler had been secretly going for a while. For whatever reasons.

As a result, we sent 4700men and 70 ships and 33 aircraft in 1946 to Antarctica.

Conspiracies run wild, but the only thing that's ever been fascinating to me is Admiral Byrd's diary was found and he journaled his trip in detail. They acknowledged most of it, except his hollow earth experience. (not that I believe it, it's just interesting he journaled it)

They just say he was crazy.

Using common sense... You trusted this guy to lead the "expedition" as they called it, but afterwards called him a liar when his journal was released.

Look at the technology from 1947 to say 1959. Something happened on that expedition that changed the world. We'll never know, but we spent a lot of money on that trip and resources.

Who knows what they found, but they didn't go there for nothing and they dang sure didn't go there to map the place. It was already on the Piri Reis map in 1500s.

That’s where they pulled Captain America out of the ice, right?

As mentioned above the History Channel hasn’t done history in over a decade. Ancient Aliens, right?
There is decent documentation of Hitler’s suicide/amateur cremation and the confirmation by the Soviets.
I guess the Sovs had their reasons for handling it the way they did. Messing with us?

I think its pretty clear that he found an incredibly deep and or wide canyon.

Hitler and the US were both looking for resources and usable land for military bases.

For some science reason navigation and communication experiments and discoveries were successful in Antarctica…prolly due to not having to account for the earth’s rotation as much.

I think Hitler died in a bunker in Berlin. I also think he had an "Exit Plan" that was very detailed and the outposts on The Canary Islands/Azores are part of the "Exit Plan".
This. He never got the chance to enact his plan. But he had one.

If he had escaped, there is no way he would’ve remained quiet. He would’ve continued on his path of gaining power so he can kill ppl

"Apocalypse: The Second World War" on the Smithsonian Channel is a really great series. I watch a lot of WW2 history and this series has lots of film I have never seen before. It's quite good!!

Yeah, ive always been fascinated by that. Ive spent countless hours reading testimonies, transcripts on both sides. It's pretty interesting.

Not at all haha. But I have spent hours doing research and one of the things that we struggle to find or know are the early conversations had between the leaders. I found a telegram where the US President was warned that Hitler had been secretly going to Antartica for over 18 months and "he must be stopped".

History is written by those who win the war and as a history nut, I know the first thing people do when they take over. They erase their opponent's history. Right or wrong, that is still history that dies off with them. I love researching "erased history". For instance, it's extremely hard (not impossible) to find German exchanges and what they were talking about. But it's very easy to find "what we say they said".

As much as that has happened in the history of civilization, it's hard to know what actual truth is.

I think this country needs the kind of Generals that hitler had.
As an undecided voter, I have to give Kamala credit. Yesterday she called an emergency press conference to make sure that I and the rest of the undecided voters know that Donald Trump, is in fact, Hitler in disguise. Or maybe he just acts like Hitler, I don't know. But the important thing is, Kamala finally repeated it enough for it to sink in, Trump is Hitler and must be stopped.

Ive often wondered, Hitler gets all of the blame and of course, he shouldn't be excused, so not alluding to that at all. However, I've always wondered why the entire country/civilians get a pass. Hitler didn't kill 16 million people by himself.

Obviously, you can't go back and ask, but If I could go back in time, I would love to interview common folk who were following along. They had no idea that we would look back 100 years and shame them all. Were they just blindly following or did they honestly believe in his message? Both are equally dangerous. Similar to our ancestry and stuff we're not all proud of them doing, those people have the same issue. The vast majority of their ancestor went along with it but we only blame 1 guy, mostly?

I'd love to hear from the people who didn't follow him, knew it was bad and tried to warn others and/or rebel. Imagine those people's story. They were doing the right thing even though it wasn't popular.

Great point. I think the greatest thing ever implemented is the "need to know basis". Maybe it's become the most dangerous thing implemented, but it's strictly for your safety.

Those who didn't follow the party line kept that fact to themselves because any sort of dissent was met with a trip out of town which usually didn't turn out too well. No one knew who the town snitch was so you were taking a big chance saying anything to anybody.

As @other1 stated, the ones who publicly disagreed were treated the same as the Jews. There aren't very many of them still alive, maybe 2.

Jordan Peterson mentioned this is one of his talks..."everyone looks at history through the lens of the good guys; nobody ever reads about Nazi Germany and thinks to themselves 'I wonder how guilty I'd feel for helping kill all those people', no, they say 'I would have been a hero, I would have helped the Jews'".

No you wouldn't have. You'd have gone right along with it just like everyone else. Either because you agreed or because you were too afraid to step up. Covid is the perfect example of that in modern times. There were lockdown/mask nazis everywhere, who just couldn't wait to snitch on somebody. It thrilled them.

Those people, and we all know who they were, are the Nazis.

Many of the other Nazi's were forced to flee, correct?

Many ended up in South America. I know Huntsville, Alabama has a long history with ex Nazi scientists.

Basically, they were forced to flee and leave their Nazi ideals behind with them.

I think most of the Nazis who fled eventually wound up getting caught. Took a while for some. Mengele is a notable exception.

After WW1, germans increasingly felt like they got a horrible deal. Frustration turned to nationalism, the fascism.

Its why Trump is so dangerous. Bot in the sense that him starting an ethnic cleansing, but bc he’s awakening and giving power to Americans that have been marginalized.

There are lots of folks that are just going along with it right now. Trumps base is screaming to be heard. Its that simple.

Thats not unlike the Nazi party. Again, it’s not trump himself, but the power vacuum that will come after him that will absolutely seize on the supreme court layout and -free from prosecution- power.

Really interesting stuff. We could learn a lesson from nazi germany. You can’t leave people oppressed for too long.

LoL They didn't leave their ideals anywhere. They kept them and spread them.

Maybe, but that video above is interesting. Wonder how much actually got away and their ideals continue to plague the world.

George Soros story isn’t fabricated, but Google will allude to it being not so true and that’s wild to me.

Again, after countless hours of research that guy is not a good guy. Couldn’t imagine anyone defending him, but they do a really good job of trying to erase it.

The German side and information is where you find it, but the American press makes it very difficult for the average person to discover. Many of the German people thought highly of him and appreciated his efforts. But you have to read their history to know that.

Evil will always be around. I think the greatest thing the devil ever accomplished was making people think he wasn’t real. But that’s a different story, but why I believe those people continue to exist. They’re not good guys and if you believe in good guys you must believe in bad guys by definition.

I haven't heard anyone make an argument that George Soros is a good guy, so I don't know why you're arguing the counterpoint that he's not a good guy. There isn't a single good guy billionaire in existence on the planet right now, and there never has been.

What people have argued is that George Soros isn't the head of some international Zionist plot to finance a one world government.
