I have a relative in town this week and got into a discussion about past relatives and she mentioned one of her cousins who was a little eccentric yet supposedly a brilliant attorney who never backed down from a challenging case.
Anyway, he was fishing on the Savannah River one day when a game warden came to him requesting his fishing license which he didn't have and stated to the officer he didn't need one but the officer issued Thatcher the fine.
Thatcher sued the state and won by proving that the Savannah River didn't belong to the United States nor GA, SC, etc. because it was still owned by England therefore out of the jurisdiction of any DNR in the states.
Do you guys have any knowledge of this?
BTW, Thatcher also won a case proving he didn't have to have a GA tag for his car but my cousin didn't know how that was won.
