OT: the guitar thread was an omen......need help

Wanting to learn how to play and need advise from the guitarists on here. I am looking to buy a hollow body or semi-hollow body. What would be the best bang for my buck? Looking to stay south of $750. As I said will be a beginner and spending anymore would seem like a waste at this time. TIA.
