OT:Would you want this guy teaching your child?

People need to bite their tongues more often, particularly on social media. Say what you will about Joe Biden, but he had it right when he spoke about Rush Limbaugh at his recent CNN town hall. Biden made it clear he did not like Limbaugh's political views and his history of racism and misogyny. (If you are unaware of those comments, just Google the topic and there will be plenty of examples.) But he added that he felt badly that Limbaugh was suffering from a terminal illness and, as the father of a son who died of cancer, he would not wish cancer on anyone.

That is a classy response.

And, FTR, Trump's gift of the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Limbaugh turns my stomach. The man is unworthy. Just look at the other journalists who have received the award: no one will compare Rush favorably with Edward R Murrow or Tom Brokaw.

Good post.

It is lame to celebrate anyone getting cancer, Trump or Pelosi, me or you. Doesn't matter who the person is.

But you are wrong. It is exactly the same thing, just opposite ends of the spectrum.

It was something he did as a private person, not in his role as a teacher. I believe, everyone should have the right to show what a dumbass they are if they choose (and suffer the consequences as a result). But just because he is a teacher doesn't mean he loses the right of self-expression, no matter how lame it is and regardless of the fact that some students might see it.

Your first post said he had the right to post his views and not lose his job. Your second post said he should suffer the consequences. Which is it?

Why don’t you back your ridiculous post up with some substantiating evidence? I’ll tell you why. You can’t. You have a good day.
You are objectively one of the most deliberately antagonistic posters on this board. Which in itself is fine. This board isn't meant to be a safe space from ideas that people don't like.

Problem is, you do this while simultaneously being one of the thinnest skinned posters on the board and quickest to get offended and make personal attacks against people the minute someone posts something you yourself don't like.

He should definitely not lose his job. That would be absurd. This is America where we all enjoy (and simultaneously hate) freedom of speech.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me if he lost his job and that could be one extreme (and uncalled for) consequence. Such is life. We are granted freedom of speech, but that doesn't come with indemnity for the things you say, so use it wisely.

Quote me one personal attack I’ve made outside of calling him out ITT. You sir, are wrong. I express my views but I never attack and go after someone unprovoked like the same select few on this board do.

Agree to disagree. Your free speech may come with consequences.

He didn’t express his views in his private life. That would be him telling his wife how he felt. He put it on social media with his name attached for his students and the world to see.

Please don’t compare someone expressing publicly they are thrilled someone is dying with cancer and hope they suffer with someone supporting the President of the United States. That sir, is lame.

I wouldn't necessarily want anyone celebrating cancer or espousing anyone as president to be my child's teacher in the classroom - one is crass, the other a potentially inappropriate effort to politically indoctrinate. However, outside of the classroom the person should be able to espouse either. If parent's don't want their children to view/hear views such as these, they should restrict THEIR child's access to such media.

Sounds like we are in complete agreement. Words and actions have consequences, and I am sure this guy is feeling some of the repercussions. What we clearly diverge upon is what we perceive to be an appropriate level of the consequences he should suffer. You'd like him fired because he is an idiot who said something bad about your team. If he was simply an idiot who said the same thing about a guy from the other team, I doubt you would have started this thread, right? Let's "Make America Great Again" and actually support the Constitution even when it is used in a way we don't agree with.

Should a high schooler be allowed on social media? They are still impressionable. Exactly the same way our football players overall are better kids and stay out of trouble more than many other programs players. They are under Dabo’s tutelage. And he’s powerful. Just like a teacher can be. So we will agree to disagree.

I don’t think there is a female on earth I despise more than Nancy Pelosi. But if she announced she was dying of cancer today and a teacher tweeted the same about her as he did about Rush, I would feel the same way. I don’t want people who say those types of hateful/ evil things teaching my child. If they say that for the world to see.... what are they possibly telling children in the private confines of their classroom? Do not want my child exposed to that influence. I wouldn’t wish death on anyone but a murderer or child molester.

Would you also agree if the teacher was espousing socialism, Buddhism, Campaigning for AOC and praising a terminal illness of Trump? You cannot damn or support one side unless you are willing to tolerate/support the other.

there are many things that teachers should not be doing or teaching in a classroom - modeling boorish behavior, politics and religion being high on the list. Teachers should stick to teaching a subject and modeling simple uncontroversial behaviors like responsibility, honesty, effort. I am strongly in favor of parents and families being responsible for raising their children and helping guide their moral, ethical and political views.

I can't remember who said it, might've been Gordon Lightfoot, but the quote is "If liberty means anything, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear."

Would it have been ok if the teacher had just mentioned how on his show Rush questioned the link between smoking and cancer and said that there were no health risks from 2nd hand smoke and that he was glad Rush’s cancer proves that he’s full of shit and a horrible person for suggesting smoking wasn’t unhealthy (among many other things) and didn’t deserve to be recognized by the President?

Call me crazy, but I believe that Americans should have freedom of speech. Who cares if someone is mean, let them be mean. That's an indication of how shitty they are, it says nothing about me, unless of course, I freak out about it, and claim to be so offended that I need a safe space.

Not saying I wish cancer on the guy, but he did spend eight years referring to teenage Chelsea Clinton as the white house dog. He at least deserves an ass whoopin for that.
I did not know that. That's awful, but it's hilarious too. If Mike Leach had said it, this board would be calling him a national treasure.

Never thought it was funny then, even less so now that I am a father of a young daughter.

Sounds good, so the next time one of your trump buddies on here say they think (insert liberal politician) should be gunned down, we will expect to see you chastise that poster. By the way, someone says dumb sh*t like that at least once a week.

What makes Rush a POS?

Racism, sexism, hypocrisy,... It could be a long list. He was bright and even entertaining. He made many things sound credible by including facts. In fact, many things he advocated would have been good in moderation. The thing is he didn't believe in moderation.

Rush was never bothered by the whole truth early in his career and later the truth became less and less important.

I won't agree with everything here, but there is a clear link between celebrating someone's cancer and supporting this president. By supporting DT, you support everything he does, from lying to the public to mocking a reporter with disabilities, to grabbing women by the Px$$)(, to much worse.

Having two parents that battled cancer I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy but I can understand how some folks will feel the way they do about good old rush here is just a little snippet of who he really is as if you all don’t know!!

Just stop man. Your constant berating, condemning, and outright anger towards anything of a religious or conservative bent is tiresome, boring and often just plain nasty. Another example of the "tolerant" pseudo intellectual liberal who knows more than anyone else.

So you have no issues with someone who has 15 million people listening to him denying proven links between smoking and cancer?

Actually I do. But that's not what I was talking about now was it Skippy? That and " i never had sex with that woman" and " if you like your health care you can keep it" bother me too. You?

Who knew it was possible to be so repulsed by an idiot stranger on a message board. One who always spews such animosity, hatred and hostility. Until now.... I never reply to your constant personal attacks. You have no idea how to disagree with someone with civility. Have a good day. I’m going to pray for you.
President Trump doesn’t like people like you.

Get real, first of all Mike Leach would never say anything remotely that disgusting. But if he did he'd be fired on the spot and forgotten.

Can you point to anything on record of Mike Leach repeatedly referring to a child as a dog in a completely mean-spirited way? I'll wait.
Of course not, but that's a very specific situation, compared to the general and completely wrong situation in your other post.

“Rush Limbaugh absolutely should have to suffer from cancer,” Sarandos tweeted to his 1,323 followers. “It’s awesome that he’s dying, and hopefully, it is as quick as it is painful.”

giphy.gif

Kind of ironic that the guy in the video crashes into a spare tire with a " Life is Good" cover on it.

This is a very good post, except for one thing. Rush is not a journalist. Never claimed to be. Doesn't want to be.
