Pitino was asked about the rise and sudden dominance of the SEC and what he believes contributed. It's obvious that the SEC has invested and made it a priority to improve the product, but he also claims bigger is better for conferences. Pitino said he has expressed to the Big East over the past two years that they should expand, specifically mentioning that the Big East and ACC basketball only should merge.
I have not heard this concept before but I'm not opposed to learning more about this becoming reality. Clemson rotating through the Big East brands during basketball season would add some spice. Pitino also mentioned that the Big East is best positioned to dominate basketball going forward as they don't have to share their revenue share with football. Their schools have $20mm to direct virtually all of it to basketball talent. That makes sense. Interesting stuff.
