Florida Governor Ron DeSantis defended his veto of $35 million in funding for a potential spring training site for the Tampa Bay Rays after the Major League Baseball team last week said it was committed to “actionable change” in the wake of the school mass shooting in Texas.
“I don’t support giving taxpayer dollars to professional sports stadiums,” DeSantis said Friday at a press briefing when asked about the veto of the youth sports complex. “Companies are free to engage or not engage with whatever discourse they want, but clearly, it’s inappropriate to be doing tax dollars for professional sports stadiums. It’s also inappropriate to subsidize political activism of a private corporation.”

The Tampa Bay Rays said on May 26 that it would donate $50,000 to the Everytown for Gun Safety’s Support Fund and use its channels to offer facts about gun violence in the wake of “devastating events that took place in Uvalde, Buffalo and countless other communities across our nation.”
Everytown for Gun Safety, which advocates gun-safety measures, is backed by Michael Bloomberg, founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP.

Last week, an 18-year-old man killed 19 children and two teachers at an elementary school in Texas, and a racist attack 10 days earlier at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York, left 10 victims dead.

The Tampa Bay Times reported the veto on Thursday as part of DeSantis’s approval of the state’s budget for next year.

DeSantis, widely considered a possible contender for the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential race, has targeted a series of culture-war, wedge issues popular with his base and has moved to confront companies that oppose them. In April, he signed legislation to strip Walt Disney Co. of its self-governing privileges in the state after the company criticized a law he supported that limits school instruction about gender identity and sexual orientation.

i don't consider supporting gun regulations being similar to supporting a hate group...

"i think there should be smarter gun regulations"
"i think black people aren't human"

yeah these are similar things

Here we go with your imbecilic analogies again. Are you on the damn spectrum?

In the last five years or so a gunman walks into a Florida nightclub and slaughters 49 people. In another, a gunman walks into Parkland high school and slaughters 17 students and instructors. Since then there has been an explosion of mass murders in almost every state.

The Tampa Bay Rays tweet support for gun safety and the governor thinks the correct response is to veto money for their stadium? He also said if he was governor after Parkland, he wouldn't have passed the red flag law and now says he wants to sign a bill on constitutional carry that doesn't require training, licensing or registration.

And in response to this deranged authoritarian you compare what he did to a Dem governor tweeting support for the KKK?

Holy sh*t balls dude - you need Charter and two day follow-ups, you deranged clown.

Or perhaps Ron thinks there are better uses of tax payer money than funding something that often doesn't generate the economic windfall for the state that is proposed by team owners when they ask the people/state to fund their profits.

Could also be that Ron needs to focus tax dollars on infrastructure to support the mass influx of new residents.

Then why not just say that? Why push this sinister narrative that organizations that support gun safety are woke and should be punished?

I'll tell you why...it's because people like you slobber all over him like he's a god when he sticks it to people you oppose. Right or wrong doesn't matter - it's the cruelty that counts.

The cruelty? my god man, pull yourself together.

Why should an organization be able to use my tax dollars to donate to a movement that I might not support? Now this one is different because I don't see the harm but how many orgs on tax subsidies donated money to BLM? Now proven to be riddled with fraud.

"people like you" settle down Hitler

I'll take that as a compliment because that means you love me.

Do you think what he did was right?
Telling the owners to go pound sand and pay for their own stadium? Yes.

Read the Brookings article I sent, gives you some color on why the tax "loan" doesn't necessarily get repaid to the state or the people.

As for the political posture, I don't believe organizations that receive tax subsidization should be donating money tax payer dollars but would have rather him just said this isn't the best plan for Florida's tax revenue and left it at that. The country is well beyond hyper political and this is just another example.

You forget that in the modern Republican party, owning libs is much more important than fiscal responsibility.

You forget that the modern left wing democratic Party and their media enablers have reckless disregard for the truth by continuously lying straight through their teeth

Now do Fauci, great success of the Afghanistan withdrawal that was promised, Hunter abides laptop is misinfo, Russia collusion is a hoax, inflation is transitory/temporary, shutting down the pipelines domestically will not impact energy costs (oh and somehow we are still energy independent), $3.5 million from Moscow mayor to Biden is true, Biden is the ‘big guy’, I’m not saying Trump didn’t lie, the fact is all politicians lie. It’s ridiculous to slam the republicans for lying when the democrat party lies through their teeth each and every day as well

I get it. You need to convince yourself that the left lies as much as your side, so you can feel better about your party.

And LOL at Fauci being made public enemy number one because he had the nerve to tell the TRUTH that hydroxywhatthefvck didn't work. It's despicable what your side did to that man who has spent his entire life in service to this country and is the most respected epidemiologist of our time. Someone has to be the villain for making Trump look bad. It can't be Trump because he is a stable genius, so there has to be a boogeyman.

Your other points are irrelevant straw man arguments as well.

The Florida stuff is a state issue.

If you voted for biden, and you look at what's going on in the world , and especially in this country, right now, and :you still think you made the right choice, I can't help you.

On the other hand if you look at the world right now, how would things be any different if trump was prez.
One, the border would be secure and not wide-open allowing illegal immigrants to flow in unchecked in places where the wall is not finished.

Two I think gas prices would be much lower because Trump would not have eliminated our energy independence which we achieved in 2020 for the first time in I think 40 to 50 years.

Three I think the situation in Ukraine would look a lot different and yet would either have been prevented or it would be over and done with by now, he is on the record as well as many of his administrative officials saying that Putin had a understanding of the consequences that were to come from the United States if you were invade Ukraine . Thus, I don’t believe he would have done that invasion with a stronger leader in the office (Not just Trump, there are others that would be tougher than Biden. I think most would agree with that).

Fourth I think there would’ve been a much different result in the withdrawal from Afghanistan that was truly horrifying and devastating the way that went down

The Afghanistan was a farce. They should have gotten the civilians out before they took out the troops.
The gas thing isn't really on Biden. A few weeks ago there were senate hearings and not one oil exec. even mentioned Biden. They all said it was a supply+demand thing.
You don't seriously think Putin was concerned with what trump might think or "do" as far as Ukraine goes?? trump has been kissing Putin's ass at every turn and he thinks the invasion of Ukraine was "genius". Putin has something big on trump that's why trump is always giving him a pass.

Afghanistan is the exact reason why Putin invaded Ukraine, he saw how weak the most powerful man in the world was and how he didn’t give a dang about the soldiers we lost in the bombing. Also if you really want to get into Putin/Biden, Putin published exactly what he was going to do last Summer and that was public information. you think Trump would have sat on his hands when he heard that. Hell no.

Give me one example how he kissed Putin ass and also explain why Russia didn’t invade a singe country while DJT was in office, unlike his 5 predecessors.

"At a news conference after the summit, President Trump was asked if he believed his own intelligence agencies or the Russian president when it came to the allegations of meddling in the elections.
"President Putin says it's not Russia. I don't see any reason why it would be," he replied."

But Trump said he’s not convinced that Putin is behind the attacks.

“She said Russia, Russia, Russia, maybe it was. Could also be China,” Trump said. “Could also be somebody sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds.”

In an interview Friday with CNN, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said, "I think it's the case that now we can say pretty clearly that it was the Russians that engaged in this activity."

Despite Pompeo's remark, the president suggested that the hack may have had a different foreign source, although it seemed to be just an idea rather than a definitive statement. "Russia is the priority chant when anything happens because Lamestream is, for mostly financial reasons, petrified of discussing the possibility that it may be China (it may!)," Trump tweeted.

what more do you thin the US would have done for Ukraine under trump? you guys are already pissed that we helped at all. you think trump would have sent in US troops? provided more bombs or armorment? the president of ukraine is thanking Biden for being one of the only ones who have helped and somehow trump would have done better.

Afghanistan was a mess, but let's not pretend like you care about human lives. perfectly happy to turn a blind eye to school shootings and see people die of COVID, no problem. Afghanistan is where we must draw the line?

Putin wrote last summer about his intentions to invade, so I will take back that our withdraw caused it. However, given what he saw and how weak we looked on the world stage during that operation, I think it gave him further confidence that this was a good time to execute his plan. I think we should help Ukraine, nut at some point we have to ask our NATO Allie’s to step up too but they are simply taking a defensive position instead of helping like we are. They should be in lockstep with USA, regardless if Ukrsine is part of the alliance or not.

Canadian pipeline construction was cut off which would have given us 900,000 barrels a day. So prices went from $2.20 at the beginning of Jan 2021 to 3$ mid 2021 and $3.40 mid Nov 2024, all way before Russia invasion. Also he did pause leasing for oil and gas leaking on federal land on the very first day he took office. He also drove up the social cost of carbon from $8 per metric ton to $51 per metric ton during 2021. This puts a massive strangle on domestic production. There is zero talk from him of advocating for increased production from companies here in the USA, which would signal to the market and drive prices down. But his prior actions combined now with the war will only continue to drive gas prices higher.

Do you hear yourself? Construction of a pipeline was stopped (hint, not an actual working pipeline) and that caused gas prices to rise? Can you see it has nothing to do with actual cost of producing gas and getting it to the pump? Would you believe that oil companies are actually gouging the American public and that republicans stopped laws preventing that? Why would anyone want you to pay more for gas? Especially the politicians you voted for? Shocking you guys are so concerned with gas prices but rather than do something about it you’d prefer to bitch and moan.

I didn't read any of it. No reason to. Anything you post comes from the liberal world you live in.

The sad reality of it is, you could probably come over to my house for a cookout, and everything would be great. I've said this 1000 times. 99% of politicians are corrupt. It's as close to fact as anything I have seen in my lifetime.

My sister is a lib. I don't agree with ANYTHING she supports, but she is still my sister. I love her because she is my sister.

To me, it is a set of values you develop while you are growing up. That's why parents are fighting against this kind of thing.
