Picked up the PSA combo and needs some recs on affordable range ammunition that will not screw up my guns.

Also, I didn't purchase the rear sight for the AR and needs some sight recs for that too.

good thread. I bought the combo as well. I did not get the rear sight. Bought a Vortex strikefire II red dot. I looked at alot of reviews and kept coming back to that one.

edit: also not super impressed with the magazine (i know its military spec) so I bought a magpul pmag 30 round magazine. Wast just in the Mt. P. store and all they had now were 40 round versions of the magpul. Will check back another day

Thanks. Will definitely check it out.

I've run probably 500 rounds of the American eagle ammo through my 5.56 at the range without issue. You can usually find it for around $0.32/round or less.

In general, stay away from the Russian stuff if you're not going to clean it right away.

American Eagle is made by Federal, so it's good stuff.

I shoot a piston driven AR so I don't worry as much about carbon. From military experience, I wouldn't go to a normal gas system.

Generally speaking, anything in a steel casing is bad, brass you're probably OK.

You should trade your 9 and AR for one of these

Rear Sight: either Magpul or Troy.

Ammo: American Eagle, Federal, PMC, you can't go wrong. A word of advice: whatever ammo you use to zero your rifle with, stick with it.

The same manufacturers also make 9 mm ammo so you should be good there too.

I second the above mentions of steel case Russian shit. Stay away.

Lol thanks. I just watched a YouTube video of some nerd reviewing the Vortex Red Dot and he recommended using crappy steel bullets to zero it in then switch over to good ammo.

Vortex has made strides recently with their stuff. I personally would get an Aimpoint or EOTech (don't let the mall ninjas tell you EOTechs suck. They are clueless). They are expensive but well worth it.

If you want a red dot check out Trijicon's MRO it is lighter than an Eotech and cheaper than the comparable Aimpoints. The battery can last for 5 years if left on setting 3 making it perfect for home defense. I would also recommend the magpul back up sights.

American Eagle (Federal), Independence, PMC, Hornady are all good. Russian made AMMO can be a little dirty. Cheap surplus used to have an issue with being corrosive but that's not much of and issue any more. Tula steel ammo shoots fine but you have to check for messed up primers while loading.

Rear sights you have a few options. Magpul MBUS, Troy, Spikes, and Aero Precision all make good sights. If you need prices or more info let me know. I am an FFL and and I'm a dealer for over 40 companies. I do this on the side and have a shop at my house that I do business out of. I do a lot of builds, cerakote, etc. I can compete with anyone on parts and firearms. Ammo on the other hand I typically cannot. I don't buy the quantity(crates) required to get good deals. Let me know if you have any questions on stuff.
