Here's a funny anecdote about the spring game that first year in 2011. The offense was, in a word, bad.
FULL RECAP:
Balls were overthrown, thrown in the dirt and dropped by receivers as the Clemson passers went 19-61. WR DeAndre Hopkins looked good, but I thought the rest of receivers were uneven at best. I'd be surprised if 5-star WR Sammy Watkins wasn't starting by the third game.
Boyd struggled throwing and so did backup Cole Stoudt. Stoudt actually has a nice arm, but looked out of place running the offense. He's a pocket passer and I believe he'd be more suited to a pro-style offense. If Boyd goes down, this offense will have problems. Even if he plays, there are apparent issues.
I've heard you can't judge quarterbacks in a spring game, but I know what I saw, and the passing part of the offense needs work.
