Since it was approved that we can expand our roster up to 105 players and we currently have less than 85 on our roster as of right now between who is graduating and who we have coming in, what do you think our staff will do? It has been mentioned that Clemson fully expects to get up to that 105 number, so how do you think they get there? Do you pay walk Ons or do you pay DIV scholarship players? If I was coaching, I know I would have a plan to bring in as many portal guys every year as possible as well as 4 year recruits the following season. If we brought in 20 portal guys to get to the 105 number for this upcoming season with 1 year of eligibility, that would mean we would still have 20 scholarships to put toward our 2026 recruiting class, in addition to graduation and departures. Who knows though, we may not take anyone. We NEED bonifide starters for next years team along with some depth at a lot of positions. The biggest in my mind is a starting RB, a starting TE, a Starting DE, a starting LB, and a starting S.
If Dabo said lets go out and get 20 portal guys, that is an entire 1 year recruiting class how would we break down those numbers. Lets say we took 10 offensive players and 9 defensive players, 1 special teams. On offense, we definitely need 1 or 2 starting RBs, a depth guy QB, another big time WR, a starting TE, and possibly 2-3 depth/starting OL
Offense
QB (1) - At least 1 depth guy if we have a guy leave or Klubnik goes down.
RB (2) - At least 1 starter if not 2 starters to carry the load for 1 season, until we can bring along EZ and Gideon
WR (1) - A starting/depth WR. Should be lots to choose from.
TE (1) - A Starting TE since we just lost ours
OL (5) - Go get starter/depth guys for OT (2), OG (2), OC (1)
Defense
DE (2) - Really need 2 starters to carry the load, but 1 could be a depth guy
DT (1) - We really need another DT Starter opposite Woods for a year
LB (1) - We need a starter to help bring along Brown and for 3 LB sets that allows Woodaz to be used as both S/LB
CB (0) - I think we are good with Terrell, Lukus, Lewis, and Hampton (Also have Feagin and Gipson ready to contribute next year)
S (1) - Need a starter to fill in for Mickens, alongside Barnes and Griffin.
