Ruth Bader Ginsburg Calls Kappernick Stupid

For the record I will have to disagree with her and her stupid comment.

That is the beauty of her statement- he has the right to do it, she (we) have the right to think it is stupid. You also have the right to think it is heroic, but many don't. THAT is one of the things the USA has going for it- neither position is against the law.

You may not agree with anything she stands for, but if you've read her opinions you know this woman is far from dumb. Just like everybody on the left thinks Scalia was a dope, but they'd be wrong as well.
Dont think Scalia was dumb. But think he ibterjected his politics where they shouldnt have been, and he was basically unapologetic about it.

I was flabbergasted she said that. I imagine a ton of Liberals are as well.

She and Scalia were best buds, as I recall. She enjoyed his humor and had mentioned before that they shared some similar cultural sentiments. So, from that standpoint, I think it makes some sense. I am more of a moderate than a liberal (moderate equals liberal on this board though) and I was very happy she agreed. His antics are stupid IMO.

From what I've read they were, pretty much, best friends.

Would have been nice if she elaborated more on why she thought it is dumb. She did not come off as very sharp there.

Noooooo that's definitely not the point.

I think you're misunderstanding me. The methodology, not the objective. An effective protest often brings attention by being intentionally disruptive so people are forced to think or talk about it. Silent, peaceful protests are great, but they usually gather little momentum for their cause. RBG said Kaepernick's protest is disrespectful. And I agree with her, but I also think it's supposed to be.

Yes, but like a child acting up seeking attention, I choose to ignore them whenever possible. When I do think about it, it is rarely to seek to understand anything other than to wonder about their (lack of) upbringing. I refuse to let a childish and disrespectful act have any influence over my life. If someone wants to be treated as a respected adult, they must first act like one.

Well you're talking about it right now, so it doesn't seem like you achieved your goal.

im curious, what constitutes an acceptable protest? protests are childish and disrespectful? How should anyone protest in a more respectful manner?

You know, the kind you can't see, conducted by people with no money or power, in places you aren't looking.

I ignore "Whenever possible", I still refuse to allow it to influence my life. If not for this thread, I doubt it would have even enetered my mind.
