Saturday Insider Notes II
By: Larry Williams

Clemson is practicing indoors today amid heavy rains. The media were allowed to watch some of it, and here are some things that stood out to us:

-- Interesting developments so far with the starting offensive line.

Hunter Rayburn is at starting center, and Marcus Tate at starting left guard.

Mason Trotter started five of the last seven games at center, and the two games he didn't start there it was because he started at right guard in place of an injured Will Putnam.

Today, Trotter was working at second-team left guard and Trent Howard was the second-team center behind Rayburn.

Howard has totaled 53 snaps this season in three games.

Tate moved over to left tackle when the second-team line trotted out.

-- Looks like LaVonta Bentley could be in line for a starting role in place of Baylon Spector.

Spector is out for the bowl game after undergoing hand surgery, and today when the first-team defense ran out it was James Skalski and Bentley as the top interior backers.

Nolan Turner has been out while wearing a walking boot, and the top two safeties who ran out today were Andrew Mukuba and Jalyn Phillips.

Sheridan Jones and Malcolm Greene were wearing green limited-contact jerseys.

-- After the offense opened Friday's tempo session in a two-tight-end set, today it was the standard personnel grouping with Davis Allen the lone tight end and the three receivers Beaux Collins, E.J. Williams and Dacari Collins.

-- Hunter Helms was the second quarterback in the pecking order.
