In today's edition:

We ship oil from our reserves to other countries, including China....

We need more gun laws so we can have more things for government to do when they can't do much of anything right to start with...

Our military is having a hard time attracting new recruits.... I wonder why? So let's cut our standards even more.

Recruiting is tough in the military right now because the job market is good. We have to have bodies. So yes, requirements will reduce.

so we're releasing 1 million BPD from the SPR, and you're upset we sent 5m barrels over the course of 2 months to european countries that are struggling since they've cut themselves off of russian oil?

From our national reserve, yes. We shouldn't be using it at all. We should be producing.

we're producing similar volumes to what we were producing prior to Covid. the US refineries don't efficiently refine the light crude that is extracted in the US, they're designed to refine heavy crude that is found overseas and in Canada.

i'm going to give a little history lesson on US oil production and refining. US refineries are fairly old (around 40-50 years on average) and were created specifically to refine heavy crude, which is found in canada and overseas. this is because, up until we started fracking, it was the most cost effective way for the US to produce oil. the overwhelming majority of oil extracted in the US is light crude - which is the best for creating gasoline/diesel/jet fuel/etc. however, none of the major refineries in the US have made the transition in the last 15 years for light crude refining. the only oil we import today is heavy crude and that's solely because the refineries in the US can't handle light crude. so we export and sell our light crude to other nations who can refine it, and we import heavy crude that we are able to refine.

I know this. We've needed to update and modernize for a long time. We also need to build new refineries. Thank you for the history lesson which further demonstrates how asleep at the wheel we've been because of all the obstruction by those who have little to no understanding of our energy situation in the United States. Also, why are we harvesting oil we can't refine? Then we have to spend a lot of money to ship it to where they can refine it which uses more oil, etc. to get it there and then bring it back....

Allegedly we can process enough to meet our own domestic demands (not entirely sure i believe this), but it's not as cost efficient as it would be if our plants were designed for light crude refining. I agree, but the O&G industry absolutely prints money and they could've started making changes back in the mid 2000s when fracking boomed and we found all these pockets of light crude that are easily accessible.

we import a fraction of the gasoline/diesel we use, but the vast majority of the 8.5~mil imported barrels is unrefined crude that our refineries use

From what I have read, there's a lot of trepidation about investment when the end goal for one party has been abolition of the fossil fuel sector (as though that were possible and have our economy survive). There's tons of red tape and even when the other party is in power, it's obvious that won't be a permanent thing. So the best course of action is to do nothing which is ultimately what happens. When someone does try to do something, it is obliterated with red tape. I just don't see how that can be a sustainable model.

My own personal view has been we need a sustainable energy plan that both parties agree to. Something that won't move with the political tides. It's certainly a worthy goal to aspire for a net zero energy policy in the United States. It's also a practical impossibility without a plan that everyone has agreed to. So many of the problems in our country come down to each side being more invested in the problem than in a solution to the problem. It's more useful to have something to beat each other to death with than it is to try and work together to create solutions. Until the public demands solutions, we won't have them. We can't be net zero now. We can't just use electric cars. There are so many obstacles we must navigate to get to that point. We should have a plan that everyone understands and we can work together to achieve.

The fossil fuel sector will die eventually; that’s an economic reality.

The GOP has no desire to seriously address the problem.

why can't drill more be a strategy?

Energy companies would rather not get crushed if they dump more money into procuring and refining oil if/when prices drop

Tying your economic fortunes to the energy market is a bad idea

Not in our lifetime.

Are you kidding?
Oil is lasting closer to 50 years than 100. It will get more and more difficult to justify further investment in the sector even if the tank is not totally empty. Let’s just keep pumping away and see how that works out.

Long term thinking doesn’t suit politicians and the legitimate day to day concerns of constituents.

so are the elements we use to make batteries- much more so than crude oil. Should we stop making EV cars?
There are these words in the English language called “better” and “worse.”

I’m sure the GOP will be on board with funding research into batteries not requiring lithium or rare earth metals.

Typical idiocy

How much of that oil is recycled? How about the battery?

All things die eventually. All resources are finite. What's even more finite are the rare components used in all the so called "green energy" technologies. It is easy to say one side won't budge. They will both have to. We will need a path forward one way or the other. Reality is unavoidable. The fact you just blame republicans and dismiss this shows your hand.

imagine recycling oil. seems like a tough ask. imagine recycling batteries. seems possible.....

Yes WAP, we are upset! What about China? If one barrel of that oil went to China/Russia then you're GD right I'm upset.

You sit back on your beanbag, eat your Cheetos, and let the grown-ups handle this.

but it's not going to Russia/China. they're being sent to Italy which will then send them to refineries in Europe that can process light crude into gasoline/diesel/jet fuel for European use. the reason we sent 5m barrels to Europe is to provide assistance while Europe stops using Russian oil.

it's also not lost on me how in another thread you're bitching about how Biden is dampening our global presence, while in here bitching about Biden doing the very thing which strengthens our global presence. good work.

You took the time to go back and look at something I said in another thread (you must be like 12 years old right).

There is nothing that Biden has done to help this country. NOTHING! If you can provide such evidence, please enlighten me.

I'll help you, and keep you from blowing up the dial-up connection (probably funded by other "tax payers") that you have.

NOTHING!

Biden has never done a single damn thing for me, outside of making my dollar less valuable. Most people learn this stuff in K-12, but apparently you didn't.

You needed to spend $100,000 to prove everyone that reads this that you are an IMBICILE! I was gonna say congrats on spending that money to buy common sense but I can't even give you that. BRANDON is going to wipe off all your debt. So in reality, you went to college for free, and you couldn't even play sports.

I had literally just responded to that thread when I saw that you quoted me in this thread too.

the onus isn't on me to prove he's done something to help the country (what an arbitrary statement.)

i'm going to assume you're a troll because i've never seen a better example of dunning krueger than what i'm reading now.

When u assume you make an a$$ of you and me.

What policy has Biden instilled to make this country/it's people better? Can't name one can you? That's the difference in dems and pubs. We have actual core beliefs.....you, not so much so.

So while pubs suffer with the fact that we don't have true leaders, you folks don't even know who you are. Can you define a woman....."I'm not sure, I'm not a biologist". Do you believe in abortion up until the day of birth (this might be difficult for you because no one would be willing to have sex with you anyway)? Do you believe in gun rights? Abortion is not in the bill of rights, but gun rights are!

Look, you can bow down to your overlords all you want, in whatever state you want. I choose not to.

What is a dunning kruegger? If it's an actor/screen name then that tells me all I need to know.

You did my homework for me.

I do have core beliefs. I do not agree with taking the life of an innocent child who didn't ask to be made in the first place. I do agree with taking the life of someone who inflicted death upon someone else.

Whew. I'm exhausted. You buying drinks?

Fetus as you call it doesn't haven't an eye witness/more evidence to them committing a crime.

I truly believe much of this current crime would diminish if people got killed quicker and more often. Maybe even make it a pay per view event.

And before you bring it up, the only "crime" I've ever committed is speeding, so I've got that going for me.

I see you tried your best to answer the question and then devolved into an odd argument against the sanctity of life.

Can you please clearly answer the question;
Is the justice system batting 1.000? Have they put innocent people to death?

I’m absolutely certain that innocent people have been put to death. I’m absolutely certain that innocent people have been put in prison for other crimes.
They were convicted by a jury of their peers.

I’m also certain there are people in jail for this J6 BS. Held without any due process or even being sentenced.

You can’t have it both ways my friend.

Either we value innocent lives or we don't.

FYI, i'm not a fan of putting people in jail without trying them if that wasn't clear.
