Not sure how I feel about this. Part of me says yes and the other part says no.

What say you?

In all seriousness, it Sure should. Along with Heroin, Cocaine, and certainly Marijuana. Imagine if those devices were modestly taxed. Think that could possibly help out with the Health Care disaster the country is mirred in.

Maybe they could just put a prostitute tax in place to pay off our natoinal debt.

My friend just went to amsterdam said the ladies in the red light district all are their own bosses. Get tested every week for STD's and have their own union.

I mean if your going to legalize it, I think that sounds about right.

Actually, making things legal tends to lower the amount of illegal activity surrounding it.

You're wrong on the sex trafficking and prostitution. Look it up.

Shocking that you are quoting my post disagreeing with me.

I'm not sure what legalization does to trafficking. You might not have to smuggle people in if it were legal. I guess Nevada should have the answers.

Amy could be right, though. It could mean there would be more jobs that Americans just wouldn't do, like agriculture and house framing now.

Really Doc? Even in Amsterdam where the women are their own bosses and have the union to protect their safety?

Reckon?

If it was legalized, then all the providers would not only have to be registered, they'd also have to clear health regulations.

What idiot would go to a hooker on the corner and risk disease when you could go to a brothel and be with a healthy person?

And, of course, it would cut down on trafficking.

As a Libertarian, it should be legalized for those of legal age (18). Also think adults should be able to marry more than one person (as long as all are consenting adults). Not that I'd ever do that but it should be legal.

@amynhop is correct on this one. the effect is particularly pronounced (in terms of an increase in sex-trafficking in countries with legalized prostitution) in countries that are high-wealth democracies.

Cite :)

However, i dont think you can look at the likely increase of sex trafficking in a vacuum. If you consider the larger picture, on balance, it could be possible that legalization is still worth it.

I mean, for one... @scotchtiger, think of the tax dollars.

Not a topic that really affects me but I will give it a shot.

There are those that can legally obtain sex on a consistent basis. If you were one of the ones out there that had physical or mental obstacles to obtaining recreational sex, you have to resort to breaking the law to have sex.

You can legally pay to have the hairs pulled out of the crack of your ass, a ring run through your clit or nipples, your butt hole bleached, etc etc. But we draw the line at a luckless dude paying for a hand job behind closed doors.

Laws against prostitution, gambling and smoking dope are as worthless as tits on a bo-hog. The laws are not even slowing these things down. Never have. Never will.

It'd prolly be like legalizing sportsbooks. The legal way is taxed, and the illegal way is not taxed.

If the government would step up enforcement, they'd be able to drive business to the legal sportsbooks and hookers.
