Everyone always tries to drag Clemson and Dabo into crap about race, so I’m here for all of this! For the record I do believe FSU fans would be just as upset if Deion and Travis Hunter were white and that this isn’t about race. Noles can enjoy their usual mess though.

Anyone care to share more on this topic? Is the board in meltdown mode? The kid is going pro after three years either way. I can see how FSU fans are upset, but they really have no right to be upset. The kid wants to play for a Hall of Famer and not FSU. Coaching matters, it's not a race thing IMO. Good for him choosing a school based on what he wants in his college experience instead of chasing dollars.

Isn’t he chasing dollars?

He got a $1.5 mil payout to go with Deon. Deon denied the # reported but stopped short of saying he was not paid.

This is a one off situation. Deon got a kid a sweetheart deal on a situation where Deon’s marketability was as much as a factor as the kids.

I think Deon basically bought a recruit (with someone else’s money) and this raised Deon coaching status to a point that Deon will be in the P5 next year.

Deon is the one coming out of this smelling like a rose.

Chasing dollars is exactly what he's doing while totally crapping on FSU on signing day. The kid was the anchor for their class and totally screwed them for money. Sure, it's totally legal but also tells me all I need to know about Travis Hunter and his family who basically lied through their teeth to Norvell.

There are some “news” outlets incorrectly interpreting the flip as being huge that he chose a HBCU and they think it’s racist that anyone is upset about it. Also they are asking if this signals a new day when top talent will choose to play at HBCU’s over “traditionally white” schools. They are trying to inject race into every part of this but these reports are being made by reporters that don’t follow recruiting and sports at all-you can tell by the way the article is written.

The reality is this would have been a huge story had the kid flipped to any non Power 5 school and his decision has nothing to do with it being a HBCU, he’s going their solely for Deion and the money (which is fine).

The implication that he only went there because of money is inherently racist in itself.. A school full of ppl that look like him had nothing to do with it. Or the fact that the black community has been pushing these hs recruits and their families to do this across the nation for some time now. There’s been a clack college push for a while now. Or the fact that now NIL is leveling the playing field: All black kids aren’t poor in the ghetto and going for the money. And shxt if he gets a 1.5 M NIL deal good for him and his family. These kids aren’t coming here or anywhere else for a degree. Campus life and experience in college I would imagine would be better there for him. If the only thing these major white schools have is better equipment and larger stadiums, then this is only the beginning. It has already started in basketball, it’s now trickling over the fball.

Just so I make sure I'm reading it right. What you're saying is he's better with sticking with his own race rather than being exposed to others? If so then you are a true segregationist. How despicable. There's no such thing as major white schools anymore. I'm not sure if you've been keeping up but that ended quite a while ago. What a backwards ass way of thinking you have. Sounds to me like you may be a racist.

If kids aren't coming for an education or a degree and that explains a lot of the problems we have doesn't it? Who are you to assume they don't care about an education? Instead of enabling that process further how about we do something to stop it?

Many kids choose the school for the education and experience. We can look at the guys Clemson has had forego early draft status to come back for another round.

It’s also pretty telling that you think all athletes don’t care about their education and that the color of his skin automatically puts him in a box of “gotta like an HBCU better because of the melanin in my skin”.

Just because you’re athletic doesn’t make you boring or idiot.

You’ll see the the true intentions when Sanders leaves and this guy follows along. Then we’ll all know

I have zero doubt that among the hundreds of thousands of fsu fans that there are several that have made racist comments about this situation. The same same would be true of just about any large fanbase. That doesn’t mean you paint the whole fanbase with a broad brush. We pay too much attention to the fringe elements in society.

Correct. Many players value their education and many don’t. Just like the overall student population. Society has deemed a diploma necessary to get ahead so many come fill up a classroom to get a piece of paper without really caring about learning. They would be better off at trade school.

?????Everyone always tries to drag Clemson and Dabo into crap about race??????
?????Everything in society seems to be about race these days?????

Everyone? Always? Crap about race?

These strike me as odd and maybe telling comments .

Saying he went there for 1.5 million dollars vs zero dollars is racist? Lol

What I’m saying is to imply that him going to a hbcu for money is racist and extremely arrogant. The NFL coaching staff there at JSU or any of the other benefits of being at an hbcu had nothing to do with it. That is what I am saying. Clemson is great and I love it but it’s not like that for black folks it’s just not the same. So just Get over yourself! NIL is just leveling the playing field.

It’s totally natural for ppl to want to be with their own kind right? Hasn’t history taught us that? Hbcu schools are focused on cultivating ppl like him, black ppl, 5 generations of black families have gone through those campuses before they could step foot on a Clemson or FSU campus. So if one black kid decides to go the hbcu route I’d suggest you old white guys simmer down. his family may believe it a better fit than somewhere else that isn’t!

Nah, I’m just a realist and not gonna tip toe around reality. You old white guys are pissed and afraid some of our recruits could get snatched up by an HBCU. You guys implying that it was only for money is 100% racist! Get over yourself, it’s only about education when the situation doesn’t work in our favor. Name me some kids 5 stars that picked us because of our education lol!

These posts aren’t going to age well, when Hunter transfers after the 2022 season.

Lmao, nice try bud! Before we change the topic and try to attach me. Again, did he go to JSU because of money or no? What’s your theory on it? We are not gonna deflect from the topic. And yes, in black homes it is discussed in that way very bluntly. So don’t mistake yourself in thinking the PWI and HBCU discussion isnt just like that. My family has 6 generations of graduates from SCSU and 3 generations from Clemson. This is 100% the topic of discussion prior to decisions being made. It’s always been a business decision for the athletes but I digress. I didn’t know we were FSU fans now smh, but I get it you guys see a threat to the traditional structure and I get it. The monopoly on colleges sports is ending, so just get over it

Let me give you a tip. When you have a sentence that describes a group based on skin pigmentation and then proceeds to be derogatory in nature and falsely stereotypical, it may be a racist statement and you should stop yourself. As an "old white guy" I couldn't care less if kids want to go to an HBCU. In fact, if they want to make the HBCU league the NFL minor league so that we can re-adopt the intended model for college football, I would wholeheartedly support it.

A great number of kids pick Clemson for personal development and the education opportunity it provides. That includes 5-star recruits. Your ignorance is really quite stunning. Sounds like you're imprinting your lack of taking education seriously on others. Good luck with that.

Lmao, my education level and what I do for this nation probably outweighs yours but this isn’t a swinging contest and I don’t care about that honestly. I get it you don’t like my response so you attack. I’m still waiting for that 5 star that picked us because of the academics. I’m waiting, please enlighten me because I’ve been on this board 16 years and but I may have missed that one

Lmao, my education level and what I do for this nation greatly outweighs yours but this isn’t a swinging contest. I get it you don’t like my response so you attack. I’m still waiting for that 5 star that picked us because of the academics. I’m waiting please, I’ve been on this board 16 years and but I may have missed that one

I don't like people who are racist in either direction. So yeah, I will attack because your attitude disgusts me to the core. There are many high level recruits who pick a school for numerous reasons that include academics. Do you think Cade Klubnik signed here all the way from Texas solely because of football? I'm sure CJ Spiller would tell you his education is meaningless to him right? I know that's not the case. Football is always going to be a primary driver because any player is hoping to develop into an NFL player. However, most are also interested in other areas of development beyond football. If that's not you, so be it.

So Cade picked us for academics got it and Spiller did too got it. That’s the most bs I’ve heard to make your argument make sense. You can go extreme all you want. I won’t bite. Education matters of course but it’s secondary to these athletes with REAL football aspirations. So we should put Clement as recruiting coordinator by your logic right? I’m still waitin on that 5 star picked us for academics.

Except I don’t need your experience to know what goes on at those kitchen tables. I’m sitting at them.

You and the people who help you make decisions may value the bubble of surrounding yourself with people who only look like yourself. You do you. Just don’t pretend to speak for all black folk, bud.

You said above that people don’t like the threat to the traditional monopoly and I don’t disagree but I don’t think one kid that was paid to go to Jackson State is a harbinger of things to come. Playing for Deion certainly has appeal but HBCU’s aren’t going to keep up with the traditional powers in the NIL game. It’s just not going to happen. I have no idea if Jackson State is a good a school so I can’t speak to whether academics even entered the equation here. I do know that in state SC State has a woeful graduation rate.

Let me tell you, I’m important. But that doesn’t matter I’m not sure why I brought it up? Goodness just stop.

If we accept your premise that educational reputation should be/is an overriding determinate factor, then the Ivy League shouldn’t be losing kids to Clemson. Hell… Virginia and Duke should have lapped us long ago if football recruiting was heavily influenced by quality of available education.

It is possible that many people view undergraduate college degrees more as a commodity and don’t place a huge emphasis on where one attended.

And HBCU’s are not inherently racist because they are based on racial identity; they were created in response to overt racism at universities like Clemson University.

If kids begin choosing to support and play at colleges who were created in response to exclusion at what are now powerhouse programs, they may just be following Dabo’s sage t-shirt advice: Football Matters.

Your first line is ridiculous. I’m white as they come and I would go there for 1.5 million.

yes this HBCU part was the entire point being made on a national radio show yesterday afternoon calling it a turning point in college football.
It may be a turning point and I will only care if it affects Clemson.
