Is it just me, or did anyone else ever feel like Spurrier thought he was doing the school a huge favor when he was coaching the cocks? It was like he always considered his time at Florida his career, and that the time with the cocks was just something interesting to try out...kind of like my dad and his hobbies in retirement. Just something to pass the time and keep the brain active. "Hey, I wonder if I'd be any good at making furniture without power tools? I think I've got a drill someplace that you turn by hand. I know that it'd be harder than necessary, and most people wouldn't bother fooling with it, other than for the novelty, but I bet I could give it a run."

I told a buddy a while ago that I wouldn't be surprised if he work up one morning and was like "F it, I'm out. It's annoying now. Golf sounds like more fun." From what I've read, seems about like how it went down. I don't think it was some grand gesture to do what was best for the team. I think it just wasn't fun anymore, and he didn't want to do it if/when it got hard. He's an ultra-competitor, and those kind of guys don't ever quit, unless they really don't give a damn either way.

I get that he was the best the cocks ever had and all, and respect him for whipping us for a few years, but I NEVER felt like his heart was in it. Like it was all a big gag or something. From the "Why not us" speech to start it up, right up to the nonchalant ending. To me, the constant lack of heart that existed when he spoke about any given thing with the team was like a deafening silence.
