Texas quite literally has every ingredient to be the preeminent program in college football - one of (if not the largest in certain categories) endowments, $ contributions to athletic program, revenue (Longhorn network, etc), alumni size, wealthy (but not NFL team wealthy) alumni from O&G/RE/etc, etc…. Yet they only have one national championship in the 21st century with the most recent in the 20th century being in 1970. If they are not the most disappointing program, they’d almost certainly possess worst ROI of any program in the past 50 years.
As someone who hasn’t followed Texas closely over the years, what are the primary contributors to their underperformance?
It’s also interesting they’re only favored by ~10 with a roster than costs >2x ours on an annual basis. I wish the data existed to be able to analyze the diminishing marginal returns on investment in CFB as it stands today.
