The Machiavellian Intent of John Durham Surfaces inside His Court Filing, Outlining the FBI Hiring of Igor Danchenko as Confidential Informant

September 13, 2022 | Sundance | 364 Comments
This is sickening to read, and perhaps even more sickening to accept. CTH has long outlined the belief that Bill Barr was the Bondo application to cover the DOJ and FBI institutional rot, and John Durham was the ongoing spray paint application.
The bottom line is an ongoing DC operation to preserve the institutional credibility of the justice system. A credibility, which is – at this point, entirely destroyed – yet the effort continues.
John-Durham-and-Igor-Danchenko.jpg

In a court motion today [pdf HERE], special prosecutor John Durham outlines the case against Christopher Steele’s primary source, Igor Danchenko. For more granular information about the filing itself, visit Techno Fog [review article HERE].
The basic legal case brought by Durham is predicated on the notion that Christopher Steele’s source for his dossier, Igor Danchenko, willfully and intentionally lied to the FBI, and therefore Danchenko is guilty of purposefully misleading FBI investigators assigned to the Trump-Russia/”crossfire hurricane” investigation.
This is where we must stop pretending. The Durham premise of a “duped FBI” is laughable on its face. No one in the FBI or DOJ-NSD was “duped” by false information from Igor Danchenko.
The lies, as they were with Clinton lawyer Michael Sussman, were well known to be false, yet materially beneficial to the unspoken intention of the DOJ/FBI, which was to target Donald Trump. The corrupt intent of the DOJ and FBI is the basic rot John Durham was appointed to cover over.
John Durham is running a Deep State cover operation to protect the institutions of the DOJ and FBI from evidence of their prior activity. The bulls**t of pretending this is not his motive is, well, quite simply nonsense and needs to stop. Look at today’s filing itself, overlay the timeline and you can see the corrupt intention of the FBI and John Durham’s clear objective is to cover for them.
The big picture takeaway is right there on the second page. Pay attention to the dates.

CONTEXT
– From January 2017 through October 2020 the FBI was using Danchenko as part of its investigation. This includes the entire timeline of the Robert Mueller and Andrew Weissmann special counsel operation which took place from May 2017 to April 2019.
Danchenko was Christopher Steele’s primary source for information he put into his “dossier”. The DOJ-NSD and FBI used the Steele Dossier in lieu of a valid ‘wood’s file’ to support the FISA surveillance and search warrant application against Carter Page. The title-1 warrant gave the DOJ-NSD and FBI the ability to conduct surveillance over Donald Trump as a candidate and as a President. The warrant was issued in October 2016 and renewed thrice in 2017 (Jan, April, June).
The warrant was used to conduct electronic surveillance of President Trump during the time he was in office. Robert Mueller and Andrew Weissmann renewed the warrant to support their targeting of Trump and officials in his orbit. Most of the evidence gathered by Weissmann/Mueller was captured using surveillance legally authorized by the FISA warrant.
Without the Steele Dossier, there wouldn’t be evidence to support the FISA application. Without the FISA warrant there wouldn’t be legal surveillance of Trump. This is the importance of the Steele Dossier and as a consequence the importance of Igor Danchenko who provided the fabricated material within the dossier.
♦ We already knew from the Inspector General report on the Carter Page FISA application, the FBI had interviewed Danchenko in January of 2017, within days of filing for the first renewal of the Carter Page Title-1 surveillance warrant. However, we learn today -for the first time- the FBI hired Danchenko as a “paid confidential human source” following that interview.
John-Durham-Igor-Danchenko.jpg

According to Durham, Danchenko remained a paid informant of the FBI all the way to October 2020. Not coincidentally the same time when John Durham was officially appointed by Bill Barr.
So, let’s just stand back and look at this bulls**t scheme for what it is….
The FBI interviews and questions Igor Danchenko in January 2017 about the information in the Steele Dossier. Danchenko tells them the material he provided to Chris Steele was all hearsay, word-of-mouth, said in jest, bar talk. Essentially, nonsense [OIG report on those encounters]
primary-sub-source-ig-report-steele-dossier-v2.jpg

Danchenko tells the FBI the material in the dossier was crap. Therefore, the underlying information that supported the FISA application was crap.
The FBI knows the information is crap, yet the FBI still used the dossier to get the first renewal of the FISA warrant (January 2017). The original application (Oct. ’16) and the first renewal (Jan. ’17) are word-for-word and page-for-page identical. The FBI and DOJ added nothing; they simply re-filed the exact same documents for the warrant renewal.
AFTER the January 2017 interview, the FBI hires Igor Danchenko as a paid confidential human source. This move can only be seen for what it was, the DOJ/FBI needed to mitigate the damage Danchenko could bring to their surveillance warrant authority, so the FBI hired him.
AFTER hiring Danchenko the DOJ/FBI then reinterviewed him before refiling the second renewal in April. With Danchenko on their payroll they don’t need to worry about him undermining the narrative or speaking the truth about the dossier. This approach protects their warrant. The surveillance warrant is renewed.
AFTER Robert Mueller is appointed special counsel in May 2017, with Danchenko still on the FBI payroll and under control… Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Andrew Weissmann now submit the FISA application for another renewal on June 29, 2017.
The reason to keep Danchenko on the FBI payroll is to mitigate any risk he might present if he were to speak.
As you can see from the Durham filing, Danchenko was kept on the FBI payroll throughout the Robert Mueller investigation and the special counsel also interviewed him several times. When Danchenko is interviewed on June 15, 2017, he is being interviewed as part of the Mueller operation. That interview was before Mueller renewed the FISA application on June 29th.
Igor Danchenko was kept on the FBI payroll from March 2017 through October 2020.
So, what happened in October 2020?
John Durham was officially appointed as Special Counsel by Bill Barr.
durham-appointment-1.jpg

Durham-appointment-2.jpg

Follow the timeline:
Danchenko interviewed by FBI in January 2017. Tells FBI dossier is junk.
FBI hires Danchenko in March 2017 just before renewing the FISA they now know is based on junk.
May 2017 Robert Mueller appointed to cover up all of the DOJ/FBI corruption that existed in the Trump targeting.
June 2017 Mueller interviews Danchenko, then renews the FISA.
February 2019, Bill Barr enters as Attorney General.
April 2019 Robert Mueller completes investigation.
May 2019, Bill Barr appoints Durham just to look into things. Immediately then begs Trump not to declassify any documents. Trump writes executive order giving Bill Barr ability to review and declassify documents.
October 2020, Bill Barr officially (and quietly), makes John Durham a special counsel. We don’t find out until December (after the Nov election).
October 2020, FBI drops Igor Danchenko as paid informant.
Put it all together and you see the continuum.
(1) Donald Trump was being targeted by a corrupt DOJ and FBI. (2) Robert Mueller was installed in May 2017 to cover up the targeting. (3) When Mueller is nearing his completion, Bill Barr steps in to mitigate institutional damage from 1 and 2. (4) Barr maintains damage control and installs Durham. (5) Durham takes over the coverup operation from October 2020 (Danchenko safe to exit) through today.
Main Justice kept a bag over Danchenko until they needed a scapegoat, created by Durham, to sell a narrative that Main Justice was duped. John Durham is charging Danchenko (working outside govt) with lying to the FBI while simultaneously avoiding drawing attention to the FBI/DOJ officials (inside govt) who knew Danchenko was lying and were willfully blind to it in order to continue attacking and investigating President Donald Trump.
James Comey, Robert Mueller, Bill Barr, John Durham, the Mar-a-Lago raid… it’s all one long continuum of the same targeting and coverup operation.
Bill Barr was the Bondo application and John Durham is the spray paint.
The entire system is corrupt.

Posts 6 page article starts with “this is probably true”

The Durham probe has me thinking that the plan is to drag it out forever do people forget it ever existed

To add another layer of corruption to the puzzle, consider that the FISA court is supposedly under the authority and accountability of the Chief Justice of the scotus - John Roberts. Since day one some twenty years ago FISA warrants have been falsified by the FBI and nothing has happened.

At the very least, the judges on the FISA court should have been fired by Roberts and probably investigated and indicted for clearly allowing the rights of thousands of Americans to be violated with clearly bogus warrant applications , at least 75 of them since the secret spy court was created, are known to be falsified by some sources. The FBI agents who signed these applications should be in prison.

This is KGB level bullshvt going on. They file knowingly fraudulent applications, the FISA court rubber stamps them and the spying on Americans commences in violation of a page full of laws. This is clearly a cabal on a search and destroy mission of its political opponents with classic Soviet methodology.

Durhams mission is to drag this out as long as possible and throw a few low level lambs out for sacrifice. The Russia hoax went all the way to the Whitehouse and every level between it and the field agent henchmen. The evidence has been public for years now with zero meaningful legal action against nearly every crook involved. Gregg Jarrett wrote the Russia Hoax years ago and easily pieced together the whole thing from public records.

So let's see... Trump tells us Durham is investigating the "crime of the century". Since 2019 Durham has been working on this. He brought one person to trial and lost (the person was aquitted). He charged another person who pled guilty to altering an email and didn't even go to jail. Now he's got Danchenko as his last chance. Unfortunately, a key government witness is refusing to testify. So, granted, this isn't over, but it looks like a giant nothing burger. Can you imagine that... OP with yet another claim that turns out to be nothing?

Yep, those same points are echoed in this article

It's amazing how there are a ton of TGP articles saying how Durham was going to do all this stuff and you were all on board with that... but he's got nothing after 3 years. NOW he's a bad guy. Remember that Trump picked this guy to be a federal prosecutor... yet another Deep State pick I guess.

Durham shocker: Danchenko was a paid FBI informant

Techno Fog

https://technofog.substack.com/p/durham-shocker-danchenko-was-a-paid/comments

Today, Special Counsel John Durham moved to unseal this motion in limine in the false statements case against Igor Danchenko.
This motion provides new information on the details of Danchenko’s lies to the FBI, further information on how Special Counsel Mueller ignored Danchenko’s false statements, expected testimony from Clinton-connected executive Charles Dolan, and one crazy development.

But we’ll start with the the most damning development: Danchenko was on the FBI payroll as a confidential human source (CHS) from March 2017 through October 2020.

The purposes of making Danchenko a CHS should be quite clear. The Crossfire Hurricane investigation was plagued with problems from the outset. The reasons for opening the investigation were bunk. Those problems continued as the investigation went on, with claims of Trump/Russia collusion proven unverified or outright false. (Thus the targeting of Flynn for a Logan Act violation.)
That developed into the Carter Page FISA applications, first submitted to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) in October 2016, and which relied substantially on the Steele Dossiers (aka Steele Reports). The FISA applications were renewed three times - more on that later. Each application had its own problems, from FBI lawyers lying about Carter Page to the Court being generally misled.
Realizing its own misconduct, the FBI made Danchenko a paid CHS in March 2017 - just before the third FISA warrant was submitted in April 2017. This would allow Comey’s FBI to work directly with Danchenko in support of its counter-intelligence investigation against President Trump.
Danchenko being a CHS also served another purpose: it protected the Bureau and the Mueller Special Counsel from revealing their “sources and methods.” How do you hide misconduct? Bury the witness.
(Read again Inspector General Horowitz’s report concerning the Carter Page FISA warrants. Did Horowitz know that Danchenko was a CHS?)
Context helps - here’s a brief timeline of the Danchenko interviews and other important events:
  • October 2016: The first Carter Page FISA warrant is submitted to the FISC.
  • January 12, 2017: The application for the second FISA warrant is submitted to the FISC.
  • January 24-25, 2017: Danchenko is first interviewed by the FBI. At those meetings, he made false statements that he spoke to Sergei Millian by phone and that Millian agreed to meet him in New York. Both those claims were false.
  • March 2017: Danchenko is hired by the FBI as a CHS.
  • March 16, 2017: Danchenko lies to FBI agents that “he received a late July 2016 telephone call from an individual who Danchenko believed was ‘probably’ [Millian"], when in truth and in fact, and as the defendant well knew, [Millian] never called Danchenko.”
  • April 7, 2017: The application for the third FISA warrant is submitted to the FISC.
  • May 9, 2017: President Trump fires FBI Director James Comey.
  • May 17, 2017: Robert Mueller is appointed Special Counsel.
  • May 18, 2017: Danchenko falsely states to FBI agents that he “‘was under the impression’ that a late July 2016 telephone call he received was from [Millian']” when in fact Millian never called Danchenko.
  • June 15, 2017: Danchenko lies to FBI agents that he had never “spoken with PR Executive-1” (Dolan) about the dossier allegations.
  • June 29, 2017: The application for the fourth FISA warrant is submitted to the FISC.
  • October 24, 2017: Danchenko lies to FBI agents, stating that he had spoken to Millian “on the telephone on more than one occasion.”
  • November 16, 2017: Danchenko lies to the FBI against, stating “he had spoken to [Millian] on the telephone” when he knew he never did.
  • December 9, 2019: The Horowitz report is released, detailing the DOJ/FBI/Mueller FISA abuse.
  • October 19, 2020: John Durham is appointed Special Counsel.
  • October 2020: Danchenko is terminated as a CHS.
For background purposes, here’s our discussion on the Danchenko indictment and what the FBI knew about Danchenko’s Clinton connections. Recall that Danchenko was indicted for multiple false statements given to federal officials during the Trump/Russia investigation. Anyways, back to today’s motion.
The Motion in Limine
When the Steele Reports were released, the media picked-up on the most salacious rumors, one that was utterly unbelievable: that Russian intelligence had a video of Trump involved with prostitutes at the Moscow Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Also known as the “pee tape.”
The allegation came from Danchenko, who attributed it to his sources - one from the Ritz-Carlton, and another being Sergei Millian. Durham will refute it, as it expects to call at trial “Bernd Kuhlen,” the then-general manager of the Ritz-Carlton, who will deny speaking with or ever meeting Danchenko “in June 20165, or at any time.”

As to Sergei Millian (more on him later), Durham will show that Danchenko falsely stated to the FBI that this information from Millian “came from a single ten, or fifteen minute anonymous phone call that allegedly took place in late-July 2016.” That timing is of particular importance, as explained by Durham:

Then there are Danchenko’s false statements about Charles Dolan, an influential Democrat executive with ties to the Clintons. Interestingly, it was Dolan who was given a tour of the Ritz-Carlton Presidential Suite, which was the supposed location of “Trump’s alleged lurid sexual activities.”
The Reactionary is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
Upgrade to paid

In fact, Dolan is expected to testify at trial. According to Durham:
the Government anticipates that Mr. Dolan will testify that (1) it was he and Mr. Kupka who attended a lunch with the Ritz-Carlton general manager and other hotel staff during the June 2016 Moscow trip and that [Danchenko] was not present, and (2) neither Donald Trump nor his purported sexual practices were ever discussed at that lunch. Further, the Government also anticipates that Mr. Dolan will testify that Ritz-Carlton hotel staff did, in fact, provide the aforementioned tour of the presidential suite as part of the June 2016 trip and that, again, Donald Trump and his purported sexual practices were not discussed during that tour.
What is Durham’s theory on Danchenko’s motive for lying about the Ritz-Carlton allegations? Because it reflects “a deliberate effort to conceal from the FBI Charles Dolan’s role as a source for the Steele Reports and to deceive the FBI regarding Millian’s role (or lack thereof).”
In support of the theory that Danchenko engaged in an “over-arching ‘plan’ to deceive the FBI” about his work for Orbis (the company who collected the information contained in the Steele Reports), Durham also plans to introduce:
  • Evidence that Danchenko “on multiple occasions communicated and emailed with, among others, Charles Dolan regarding his work for Steele and Orbis.”
  • “Evidence that proves Dolan was aware of [Danchenko’s] reporting was part of a ‘related project against Trump’ and that this work was being done on behalf of Steele and Orbis.”
There’s more. Back in February 2016, nearly a year before his FBI interview and months before he started collecting information for Christopher Steele, Danchenko told a former employer how to fabricate sources:

The relevance of that e-mail? Danchenko’s advice to “attach multiple sources to information and obscure one’s own role as a source for information is consistent with [Danchenko’s] alleged false statements in which he denied or fabricated the roles of these individuals.”
The E-Mails and Steele’s Representations to the FBI
Also expected at trial, if allowed by the judge, are e-mails to/from Danchenko where he discusses his unsuccessful efforts to reach Millian.

Additionally, there’s an email where Christopher Steele informed the FBI that Danchenko “had met with Sergei Millian on two or three occasions - at least once in New York and once in Charleston, South Carolina.”

We brought up Mueller back at the introduction, and here’s why. Steele relayed information to the Mueller Special Counsel about the Millian/Danchenko meetings that they knew was false. Similarly, Danchenko revealed information that Steele’s reporting was false. What did Team Mueller do with that information? They hid it from the FISA Court and from the public. Danchenko continued as a CHS throughout Mueller’s service as Special Counsel. Danchenko couldn’t be touched because of his status as CHS, thus protecting Mueller and the FBI.
Sergei Millian Will Not Testify at Trial.
Sergei Millian, a key witness for Durham, will not testify at trial. Millian is currently abroad. He has voiced his concerns for his safety, stating he does not trust the FBI. Can’t really blame him at this point. At this point, Durham can’t compel Millian’s attendance.
Certainly Millian is a key witness. But key doesn’t mean necessarily mean essential. The Danchenko e-mails and inconsistent claims are damning enough, and he can be convicted in Millian’s absence. It hurts - but isn’t fatal to - Durham’s case.
The FBI’s prior counterintelligence investigation of Danchenko.
When reports surfaced of Danchenko’s imminent indictment, we made an educated guess that he would be charged for giving false statements relating to his prior contacts with Russian intelligence.

Back in 2008, while Danchenko was employed with the Brookings Institute, he had approached “two fellow employees about whether one of the employees might be willing or able in the future to provide classified information in exchange for money.” The conducted a full investigation into Danchenko after learning he “had been identified as an associate of two FBI counterintelligence subjects and (2) had previous contact with the Russian Embassy and known Russian intelligence officers.”
While we were perhaps too optimistic about those false statement charges (not without good reason - Durham points out Dancheno’s denials about contacts with Russian intelligence), Durham is seeking to introduce evidence of those lies to establish that Danchenko’s lies were material.
The rationale? That the question of whether Danchenko conducted work on behalf of Russian intelligence (not the allegation, just the question) could be important to investigators. Even if the Comey/Mueller investigators didn’t want to dig that deep.
Other FBI Investigations.
We also note that Durham expects Danchenko’s defense to “introduce evidence of FBI investigations into other individuals who the Government anticipates will feature prominently at trial.” What other individuals? Millian and Dolan and Steele, for starters.

Yawn... let us know when he actually convicts someone for a real crime. So far your stud has had a guy plead guilty to altering an email and lost the only other case in this investigation. Durham's grand jury has expired and he hasn't indicated he's going to seek another... This Danchenko dude is apparently the last chance. Anyone wanna bet that Trump's so called "crime of the century" is yet another TGP "bombshell" that ends with NOTHING more than a fizzle?

I did not get owned. It has been proven to the masses that a coup was run from within our govt on 45. Its indisputable. The fact that Durham could not get a conviction in DC is disappointing but does not change the facts. DC is a cesspool and a huge part of the problem.

Besides the original post here clearly states that I thought the fix was in and this article appears to have been correct.

Whatever man... Trump said that this was the crime of the century and that Durham would show it. This wasn't some secret agency coverup or supposed Deep State operation, this was a trial in front of a jury picked by both sides. No, you didn't get owned... but once again Trump proves that his mouth is the biggest part of him and he says things that aren't true that hurt his country and help Trump. But this is nothing new, or even remotely surprising.

The fact that you believe whatever Trump tells you you believe about anyone or anything... no proof required... could be a self own... but to be fair, you make no bones about your absolute loyalty to the man over your country and the rule of law... so no, you didn't get owned.

Lets quit trying to put words in my mouth. My allegiance is to the USA and its constitution. I support Trump as I believe he is the best man for the job and has the best interest of the US citizens as his primary focus. Its that simple. Trump said it was the crime of the century and he was right imo. The verdict from this kangaroo court in DC does not change that in my mind. I am not basing my viewpoint on what Trump said , but on all the data presented over the last 5 years that I have closely followed. A lot of the info that Durham presented is corroborated as fact and the jury elected to acquit in spite of all that.

This is probably unfortunately true. I hope that I am wrong.

Dachenko and the FBI totally exonerated.

This also proves that the Trump Russia connection was NOT a hoax.

and now Durham will join Bill Barr and countless others on @TigerGrowls deepstate list.

What you post on the regular and what you are saying above are two ENTIRELY different things... Take for instance your vilification of the Ga Secretary of State, the Lt Governor, and Governor. They are lifelong Republicans, advocating for Republican values when Trump was LITERALLY a Liberal NY Democrat. But without a bit of proof, you said they were Deep State and plotting again Trump. I (and anyone else who has read your posts over the last 6 years) have no doubt that if the secretary of state for Ga had bowed to Trump's demands and "found" those votes for him... illegally overturning the election... you'd be haling him as a hero. Just like you hale the criminals that broke into the Capitol building, attacked the Police, and were chanting to hang the VP of the United States as heroes. All the while, your guy, who LITERALLY took an oath to defend the US, sat on his ass in him office for hours while the Capitol was being attacked.

Nah, man. Seriously, take a look at the "information" you've been posting over the years. You've basically accused every government agency, politician, media person, and regular old citizens that don't completely do exactly as Trump tells them as Deep State. As I've posted before ... who ISN'T Deep State according to you? Your loyalties are VERY clear. And it isn't to the US or the Constitution.

And the key point that you said above is this: "and the jury elected to acquit". Those are the key words there. Because THAT'S how we do things under rule of law. For example, Trump was tried for colluding with Russia in the Senate. He was found not guilty. You haven't heard much else about that from me, until this very thread. Because that's the end of it. It's not about the "facts" that you think you know. It's about the rule of law and what you can prove in court.
