A South Carolina college student and her stepfather were shot dead on the front lawn Monday in a road rage-related attack after a minor fender bender in the driveway.

Laura Ashley Anderson, 21, and Charles Nicholas Wall, 45, were killed outside a home in Georgetown, S.C., which was recently purchased by Anderson, where she expected to begin her new adult life.

Ty Sheem Walters III, 23, allegedly rear-ended Wall as he turned into the driveway of the home near the intersection of Indian Hut Road and Highmarket Street, just off of U.S. 521, around 5 p.m., according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. He then allegedly got out of the vehicle and shot Wall, Anderson, and another person, WPDE reported.

“I’m having to bury one of my children and my husband. It’s such a freak thing. I don’t know why this would happen. I just don’t understand,” Kimberly Wall, Anderson’s mother and Wall’s wife, told WMBF. “It’s just devastating. I don’t know how we’re going to go forward.”

Anderson was in the front yard waiting for Wall to arrive to drop off a spare set of keys. After just moving in, she was selling an old set of bunk beds online and had realized she was locked out when she came to meet the potential buyer outside her house, Lynn Lambert, a close friend of the family, told WPDE.

"I don't understand how a simple fender bender they called it could turn into double murder and an attempted murder," Lambert said. "Why? I honestly didn't think it was real. Who does this?"

Kimberly Wall told a judge Wednesday the shooting happened just three miles from where she lives and that Walters took away two of her “best friends.” The judge denied bail for Walters, who is charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and the illegal possession of a firearm.

The third and only surviving victim was identified as Paul McConnell, the Daily Mail reported. His relationship to Anderson and Wall was not immediately known.

Anderson “wanted to be a teacher like her momma. She was getting ready to start school. She was getting everything in order. Everything was starting to fall in place for her," Lambert said. "She won't get to get married, she won't get to have children."

Law enforcement arrived at the scene to find one victim had already been taken to the hospital, a second was being treated by first responders, and a third was walking around dazed and confused with a gunshot wound to his left wrist, WMBF reported, citing the incident report. Wall was shot at least twice in the head and torso. Anderson was shot at least once in the head.

Police established a perimeter before setting out to look for Walters, who fled on foot down Kent Road. Walters was spotted walking on Georgetown Highway toward Andrews, and took off running through the woods when approached by officers. After a brief foot pursuit by officers and a police K-9 unit, Walters was taken into custody around 6:30 p.m., Georgetown Times’ Post and Courier reported.

Absolutely tragic and completely unnecessary. Prayers for the family.

If you can’t see the difference here, I’m sorry.

The big takeaway is holy shvt this can happen over a “fender bender” between civilians. With the narrative so heavily focused on how white law enforcement discriminates and wrongfully kills only black men, how can one not see the inherent dangers and difficulties of being a law enforcement official no matter your race?

1019 people have been killed by law enforcement this year. Yet, only a handful make the national news? Why?

Take a second and think about the framing here...

In 2017 there were 17k murders for the year and that is something like 50 murders a day in the US. ALL are tragic--this is especially repugnant.

In this awful, awful case was the murderer arrested? Yes. Is there any question of guilt. No. Will justice be served. Yes. And if there isn't justice then people would definitely do something about it--march, protest, etc. Just like the little boy who was murdered in cold blood. The murderer was immediately arrested and charged.

The obvious difference is that in the cases where people are protesting justice wasn't or hasn't been served and the alleged perpetrators were those in positions of authority who could've shown restraint in serving as the judge, jury, and executioner. You can debate the merits all you want of police brutality--but it is a clear and OBVIOUS difference. Anyone not saying that and trying to equivocate is trying to pit people against each other and obfuscate. This is a rhetorical tactic that is emerging amongst right wing media--don't fall for it...

Just to provide a counterpoint--being a police officer isn't even one of the ten most dangerous jobs in the US last year. We don't talk about all of the garbage workers, for example, who die at a much higher rate than police officers (but maybe we should...).

Murder rates have fallen year over year since the 90's (still too high but they have fallen).

I would ask, have you been in law enforcement or in a high intense situation in which you know didn’t the capabilities of the other person, what their mental state is, what their intentions are, or what type of weapon they potentially wield?

Can you imagine being this officer. What would you do differently?

The death rate or murder rate is higher?

That was very sobering. And unfortunately we’re going to have more people reacting to officers the way the bad guy did in the video.
Younger people are being told the police are no good and not to obey them. It’s only going to get worse.

Prayers over all the officers who ARE protecting us.

WHAT AN INJUSTICE. TIME TO GO BURN SHIT DOWN. WE CANT STAND FOR THIS ANY LON- oh wait, Nevermind. They were white.
