Interesting, I like it.

1) Raising the minimum age to purchase a gun to 21
2) Universal background checks
3) A reasonable waiting period for gun purchases
4) Banning the civilian purchase of assault weapons

He probably still thinks AR stands for 'assault rifle'.

Never did.
Never will.

He has little clue as to what he's saying despite an honorable attempt at making a difference.
Every time this subject comes up, you yahoos think you're dunking on people by saying we don't know it stands for Armalite. But even if we didn't know, it's irrelevant to this discussion.

It's pedantry for the sake of obfuscation. It's the same as when people go "herp it's actually a magazine, not a clip!"

Also, i find it amusing it's coming from the same crowd that's like "i should be able to say f*g because it means something different!"

Not sure how I’d feel about a constitutional amendment over it, and the language here is too vague, but there certainly needs to be more federal regulation on gun laws. Conservatives like to talk about gun crime in Chicago despite Illinois gun laws, but they’re accidentally making the opposite point since most of the gun crime in Chicago is committed with guns purchased out of state. The lax gun laws in neighboring states are rendering gun laws in Illinois (and other states with tougher gun laws) moot and only federal action can fix that.

I’m still waiting on what constitutes a “assault weapon” and what the definition of “reasonable” is.

Do you want comments or not???
Of course I do but I don't have the answer to your questions and not sure hes qualified it. I think its a reasonable discussion to have and would be interested in your opinion. What do you think about a 3 week waiting period for example? I hate to get into the discussion of what constitutes an assault rifle because we've done that on this board a number of times and it always gets ugly.

More than anything, I love the outside the box thinking and the unique approach to problem solving that we've been missing and just wondered what others thought, without getting too deep in the weeds.

language is way too vague, its just pomp at this point

I’m fine with a 3 week waiting period.

Definition of “assault weapon” is key here.

If he hasnt qualified it, well … he needs too.

IMO if you’re gonna go with a constitutional amendment for gun control, just use it to repeal the 2nd amendment as a whole.

I wouldn’t necessarily support that, but to me it makes more sense than a gun control amendment.

Sure, but at least someone is putting some thought into solving this problem in a unique way. He's not in a position to institute this policy, so at this point he's just putting it out there for consideration in hopes that others are inspired by it to maybe get the ball rolling. It's a hell of a lot better idea than the tepid non-solutions we've heard to this point though.

door control will work. we just have to control every door everywhere.

or at some point that good guy with a gun theory is going to come into play.

Locked doors YES!

That definitely needs to be added to the amendment

Good with 1-3 barring you raise the military age to 21 also. Can't ask an 18 year old kid to arm up and die for his country if he can't purchase a gun until he's 21.

Also, I refuse to agree to #4 until it's properly defined. AR15's are not assault weapons.......if you haven't served your country and been shot at by actual assault weapons, then your opinion on the subject means sweet f*ck all

I’d be good with raising all the current 18 year old stuff to 21 years old. I think most of us can agree that 18 year olds are, generally, pretty stupid.

So the opinions of parents whose children were gunned down in schools by AR15s mean ****all if they did they didn’t serve? I will be sure to tell them you said so.

You are ****ed in the head… seriously.

That’s not how voting works. Remember, thanks to small government conservatives women don’t have a choice about what happens to their own body in many states.

Now do every parent that lost a kid to a handgun in an urban area........ a drive by, a robbery, gang violence etc. You think all of those shootings in Nola, Chicago, The Bronx, etc are AR15's? You must only care about white kids I guess.....another dem racist.

I look forward to seeing all of the lives saved when you ban the gun that accounts for 300 deaths a year.

Also, pretty feckless to try and tie what I said to dead children but I sort of expect it from a guy like you who didn't have the sack to put his life on the line and go defend the country......

Yeah, good point....those vaccine mandates were pretty overreaching, thanks for reminding me.

Oh no, we definitely wouldn't want to ban the gun that the majority of mass shooters use! That would be wrong!

God help us if you ever get a seat in the Problem Solvers caucus...

100% in favor of, although this signals to me he's definitely gearing up for a presidential run, and I don't trust this man. I also don't like the fact that his ex wife is a Maga slut now. She knows where the bodies are buried so to speak.

Why do you not trust him? Serious question

I love the guy for having the balls to call out Puss n Boots DuhSantis when nobody else will.

Are you trying to say most of the people committing gun crimes in Chicago went t o a neighboring state and legally purchased the weapon they use to commit the crime?

It's just a gut feeling. Nothing that he's done, and I do like his willingness to take them on. I just genuinely worry he might have a John Edwards type thing going on that could leave the Dems in a real lurch.

Because for some reason this country holds democrats far more accountable for sexual indiscretions than it does republicans. Like, far more. It's almost as if republicans really have no principles at all.

Probably true and he would have some baggage to overcome if he ran but cotdamn I love his willingness to punch back against that cruel authoritarian asshole in Florida.

Your could be no more wrong. Clinton was impeached FOR LYING TO CONGRESS, not for having sex with a college age employee less than half his age and using his position as the most powerful man in the world(as well as her boss) to influence her submission to him.
Also, when was trump convicted of rape? Clinton has been accused of rape by multiple women.

Heroa derpa derpa derp

Are you implying that being impeached is not being held accountable?
He was not impeached for the relationship. He was impeached for lying to congress. Is this news to you?
Similar to what trump now faces. His problem will not be about having classified docs, it will be about lying about it - if that is what they find.

Also , all of the dems in the senate voted AGAINST impeachment. Even in your fantasy world where he was being impeached for an affair, you are still wrong. He was held accountable for nothing by dems.
