Some good story lines today as the golfers begin match play at Olympia Hills CC in Chicago. Carson Young failed to make match play, but Billy Kennerly and Miller Capps did advance.
Kennerly will face Matt NeSmith ( USC jr ) at 1:25 CT. Both are excellent players, but NeSmith is the higher seed based on medal play. Should be very interesting with the CU / Scar rivalry as a side note.
Capps will face Austin James from Canada at 12:45 CT. I don't have any info on James or if he played golf in the states, but he's also the higher seed.
Another interesting match is being played that has no Clemson ties, but is of particular interest to me. I was working the US Amateur last year at the Atlanta Athletic Club for The Golf Channel and followed this match. Cameron Young ( headed to Wake Forest this fall and a great player ) in a rematch v. Gunn Yang ( winner of last year's US Amateur, SDSt player, obviously very good ). Yang beat Young in the quarter finals 2up.
