Tony Elliott spent a few minutes with the media earlier today. A few of the more interesting themes:
-- He said Kelly Bryant is pushing for the No. 2 spot behind Deshaun Watson. Said the challenge right now is finding spots to put him in the game. "You see how dynamic he is with the ball in his hands."
-- Said the shotgun snaps are nothing to panic about. Said he challenged the centers yesterday evening in practice. Said they problems are not technical. Said it's like a jump shot: Do the same thing every time.
-- Said Jay Guillermo is pushing Ryan Norton at center.
-- Zac Brooks is making a move at running back.
-- Said the offensive line is headed in the right direction despite some hiccups against App. State. Said the problems were mental and in part the result of the Mountaineers changing the alignment of their linebackers. Said it was "a couple of technique breakdowns we've got to get cleaned up."
-- Said the Louisville defense looks almost exactly like last year's, despite the fact that the Cardinals lost all those draft picks from that side of the ball. Said Louisville's two interior D-linemen are as good as any they'll face this season, particularly Sheldon Rankins. TCU transfer DeVonte Fields looks a lot like Lorenzo Mauldin.
-- Said the Tigers are going to have to use all their tight ends. Will use 11 personnel and 12 personnel (two TEs) and mix it up.
"It's going to be a physical, tough game. It's going to come down to who wins the line of scrimmage."
-- Saturday night the staff went home and broke down the Appalachian State game tape before returning to the offices Sunday morning to get started on Louisville. When asked about the difficulty of preparing on a short week, Elliott responded:
"No sleep. Running on fumes, first and foremost."
