Trump Cancels Black History Month at Federal Agency, Whistleblower Lawyer Reports

[NOTE: “We are aware of efforts by some in government,” said Trump administration emails sent to government employees, according to NBC News, “to disguise these programs by using coded or imprecise language.]

Commenting on the developments, Zaid wrote: “It goes beyond what happened at DHS & NASA today. CIA employees were told all resource & affinity groups are canceled. No black history month or MLK celebration, or any other ethnic recognition months. DEI folks are to be fired rather than allowed to rotate to former offices.”

Zaid reported: “CIA is also apparently banning lanyards that have to do with affinity groups. Women’s Council had to take down website & cancel all events, incl women’s history month. They are also compiling lists of members within affinity groups.”

Zaid added sardonically: “Because that’s not reminiscent of 1930s” — an apparent reference to similar orders issued by autocratic rulers during the rise of fascism in Europe during the fateful decade leading to the Second World War.

Former Civil Defense Counsel and Florida State Prosecutor Adam Bear replied to Zaid: “It’s almost some vile form of a fast and easy way of trashing governance from the inside out.”

I think this borders on being dishonest. There were cities practically burned to the ground during the George Floyd riots and the VP at the time was asking people for money to bail them out.
There is just a difference in protestors and rioters. There were people locked up who were genuinely just protestors, who hadn't damaged property, set buildings on fire, or attacked the cops.

Would I have said something different? Or should she have coupled her statement with a note about violence? Absolutely. I wish she would've said something different or made it more clear or whatever, 100%. But the fact is she said protestors. Similar to the Trump "both sides" comment. Can you apply nuance to the situation, understand what he was saying, and understand why he was saying it? Absolutely! I don't think he was saying white supremacists are great. But could he have made it even more clear that white supremacy, etc, is not acceptable and made it more clear he wasn't talking about them there, also absolutely. Nuance is allowable in both directions.

@UrHuckleberry gave a great answer but I wanted to add a little more context. She made one tweet about donating to the fund to help protestors, not violent ones. The reason her support got mixed up with violent protestors was due to the arrest of Jaleel Stallings who was accused of the attempted murder of a policemen, however, he was completely exonerated after it was determined the cop actually shot him first from a van and that cop later pleaded guilty and apologized to Jaleel.

That was the sum total of her efforts to assist several celebrities who were encouraging people to donate. She never said another word about it - just that one tweet.

It's a myth that violent protestors aren't arrested because of their political affiliation - they are - and he just asked you for examples if you know of any.

The most unqualified Defense Secretary in history and only the second one that needed a VP to break the tie for his nomination, because everybody knows the only reasons he was chosen is because Trump thinks he's pretty, he wants to apply a loyalty test to the members of the military to drive out non-Trump voters and he stupidly believes that woke is the biggest issue in the ranks.

Edit - and the most important reason is because Trump knows he'll be willing to carry out his illegal orders.

God help us

NEW: Danish officials are "utterly freaked out" & in "crisis mode" after Trump told them he intends to acquire Greenland during a 45-min call.

Trump was firm in his pursuit to acquire Greenland during a call with Denmark's prime minister, according to the Financial Times.

Five European officials who were briefed about the call were in shock to find that Trump is serious about acquiring Greenland.

The officials hoped he was joking, or his statements were just a negotiating tactic.

"[Trump] was very firm. It was a cold shower. Before, it was hard to take it seriously. But I do think it is serious and potentially very dangerous," one official reportedly said.

"The intent was very clear. They want it. The Danes are now in crisis mode. The Danes are utterly freaked out by this."

"It was a very tough conversation. He threatened specific measures against Denmark such as targeted tariffs."

So does anyone want to weigh in on this 'break everything' push to avoid any accountability during his second term? What would a guy like him do with all that unfettered power with no checks and balances? 🤔

"The White House removed the independent inspectors general of nearly every Cabinet-level agency in an unprecedented purge that could clear the way for President Donald Trump to install loyalists in the crucial role of identifying fraud, waste and abuse in the government."

"The dismissals appeared to violate federal law, which requires Congress to receive 30 days’ notice of any intent to fire a Senate-confirmed inspector general. The legal uncertainty could create awkward encounters on Monday, when several watchdogs who were told they were fired planned to show up in their offices to work anyway."

“It’s a widespread massacre,” one of the fired watchdogs said. “Whoever Trump puts in now will be viewed as loyalists, and that undermines the entire system.”

"The emails informing the watchdogs of their dismissals rippled across federal agencies. Another fired inspector general learned of his ouster by reading the email for the first time while on the phone with a Washington Post reporter who had called to ask about it. The person reacted by saying the new administration “does not want anyone in this role who is going to be independent.”

“IGs have done exactly what the president says he wants: to fight fraud, waste and abuse and make the government more effective,” that person added. “Firing this many of us makes no sense. It is counter to those goals.”

“It’s a purge of independent watchdogs in the middle of the night,”
Warren said Friday in a post on social media. “Inspectors general are charged with rooting out government waste, fraud, abuse, and preventing misconduct. President Trump is dismantling checks on his power and paving the way for widespread corruption.”

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-New York) called Trump’s action a “chilling purge.”

“These firings are Donald Trump’s way of telling us he is terrified of accountability and is hostile to facts and to transparency,”
Schumer said on the Senate floor Saturday.

Former blue state of Nevada. Turn up your volume.

Wait! You mean the service workers in red state Nevada who won't have to pay taxes on tips anymore like him a lot? I'm shocked. You owned me good!

You might want to wait until food prices triple due to no field workers and across the board tariffs. 💩

The customers were the ones cheering. Are you saying that crowd was primarily service workers?

Probably a mix but I was there last March and the crowds definitely skew red

I'm just saying it's too soon to get a good gauge on his popularity while he's in the process of destroying all of our institutions and anyone with a moral compass

I don't agree that he is "destroying all of our institutions", but I will agree it is too soon to gauge the direction of his popularity primarily because with massive change, you're going to make some happy but you're also going to piss off a lot of people.

F'em all but 6 is the way I learned it.

You know who those 6 are? Your pallbearers.

The refrain in D.C. is that it’s impossible to cut $2TN from the federal budget, but here’s a hard fact: the federal government spent ~$7TN in 2024, yet only ~$4.5TN in 2019. There’s no excuse not to return to 2019 spending levels & if we do, our debt crisis is solved. Most of our 50 states would do well to follow a similar path as well.
