The reality is that in the 49 yes votes recorded, there were other senators who would have been 'No' if McCain hadn't done this. He did it to give them cover. Trump can't hurt McCain, for McCain is quite literally dying, he can hurt other senators... the fact that he got to give Trump a midnight FU was just a perk for McCain.

This is exactly right. McCain took the heat for several in the Senate and they knew it, but he did the right thing. And his speech the day before yesterday was spot on. We need more like him in the Senate. Unfortunately there are fewer and fewer every cycle.
THIS. You heard what the Republicans were saying about the bill... Namely that it was such crap that they wanted the House to promise to send the bill to conference to fix it. It was obvious that the 2 senators (one from Maine and one from Alaska) were going to vote no. McCain is probably dying and almost certainly won't run for reelection. He provided cover for the Senators that promised to repeal Obama care, but simply couldn't allow a piece of shiit that they drew up over lunch the day before to pass.
The fact that McCain got to stick it to Trump after the uncalled for stuff Trump said about him? That was PURE karma. And it was served up COLD
You sir have lost your mind. While I disagree with most of McCain's politics, there's never been a doubt in my mind that he loves this country and it's people. He's been serving his country his whole life.

Its the senate body that put this piece of crap together because they could not create a better bill or even just get enough votes for a clean repeal. This is not on Trump at all. This crap reflects on congress and McCain is still a war hawk with his own agenda who enjoyed sticking it to Trump though as I agree him and a few others did not like this particular bill. This crap is part of the status quo as we have some republicans that are more worried about keeping a very small majority of the people getting free medicaid happy than fixing the overall health care problem in our country. A lot of these congressmen are more worried about getting reelected and watching opinion polls than doing the right thing for the country. The only fix is to target and eliminate the so called moderate(fake) republicans in coming elections with the ones who flip flopped on the straight repeal vote first in line to be eliminated via their next election.
