Tuesday Insider Notes
By: Paul Strelow

As we documented yesterday, Clemson christened the two-week recruiting contact period Monday night with an assistant coach in-home visit to Jennings (La.) four-star running back Trevor Etienne.

We then mentioned this morning that the full Tigers staff was kicking off their contact period travels by spreading out to make school stops for a bunch of junior priorities.

Running back included.

Lehigh Acres (Fla.) four-star running back Richard Young was slated to draw a campus appearance from running backs coach C.J. Spiller this morning, per Tigerillustrated.com sources.

Rivals.com bills Clemson offer Richard Young No. 2 nationally among running back prospects.

Young (6-0, 200), ranked No. 26 nationally by Rivals.com, is one of Clemson's two 2023 offers at the position -- joined by Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trinity four-star Justice Haynes.

The Tigers dispensed the offer once Young visited in late June.

Young released a preseason top 10 featuring Clemson along with Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Ohio State, Florida State, Miami, USC, Oregon and Oklahoma.

In reality, only about half of those schools have a credible chance -- the Tigers being one of them.

Spiller's profile resonates in his native Florida, and he scouted one of Young's games in late September.

Young notably traveled to games at Ohio State and Florida this fall, with a planned trip to Alabama falling through two weeks ago.

We were told earlier this month that Young would likely make it to Clemson and UGA again in the offseason.

The Buckeyes feel like the early team to beat, although this race could still be won by any of the big names.

**** Meanwhile, Clemson's bull's-eyed offensive line target drew a stop this morning as well.

Mount Pleasant (S.C.) Oceanside Collegiate four-star junior tackle Monroe Freeling scored a school visit from offensive coordinator Tony Elliott, the area recruiter.

Freeling (6-7, 300), ranked No. 110 overall, took in games at Clemson, UGA, Notre Dame, South Carolina and UNC this season.

We have cast Clemson in the best position, and the Tigers are expected to attract him back on campus for their elite junior day next month.

South Carolina coach Shane Beamer was scheduled to check in on Freeling this morning as well.

Clemson four-star receiver commit Ray Ray Joseph.

**** Clemson also paid an early morning visit to its lone junior commitment.

Miami (Fla.) Edison four-star slot receiver Nathaniel "RayRay" Joseph had receivers coach Tyler Grisham on hand bright and early Tuesday.

Joseph (5-9, 165), ranked No. 181 in the country, pledged to the Tigers in September.

You cannot take retention for granted these days, and Clemson's preemptive efforts usually do an effective job of keeping the door shut.

**** For those inquiring, as of late this afternoon Clemson assistant coach Brent Venables was still on the road recruiting with Dabo Swinney.
