I'll say it in every Elon Musk thread that I see on this board. Elon Musk is the 21st century Trump. He is a confidence man through and through.

But the hypocrisy and refusal to admit such from the left here is completely on-brand and unsurprising. I mean you guys are cool leftist controlled Twitter banning the fvcking president of the United States but are crying about Elon banning what is probably a bullshit account aimed at undermining his company

Good people understand why it's wise to ban a lying, treasonous autocrat who foments attacks against our own government. Bad people don't.

Elon advocates for free speech within the law. The accounts banned were banned for threatening an individual, that is not covered under free speech.

Those claiming otherwise are just headline browsing and parroting talking points.

The point of this post is to point out the hypocrisy on Elon’s end. Private companies like Twitter (pre and post Elon) have always had the right to set their own terms of service and ban accounts. The difference here is that Elon has gone to great lengths to be critical of Twitter and other private social media companies for doing that - and now he’s doing it himself.

I’m not criticizing the banning of the account in and of itself, I’m criticizing this self righteous blowhard going on and on about freedom of speech and then doing precisely the thing he claimed he was buying Twitter to stop.

And funnily enough, it’s Elon and conservatives who complained about Twitter banning accounts and even created a congressional investigation over it. Yet now they’re defending moves like this one and others that Twitter has made since Elon took over.

Literally nothing on Twitter is treated as government protected free speech and it never has been and doesn’t have to be since it’s a private company. But don’t go crying about free speech and then start enforcing your own nebulous “terms of service”

Not true. Elon has always advocated for “Free Speech within the law.” The accounts suspended were threatening other people and filing false police reports. That is not within the law.

I really don’t care to look into this because I’m sure it’s a bunch of bullshit and I’m sure the accounts that have been banned were banned for good reason

Elon has made it VERY CLEAR, that he is/was concerned with the censorship that has taken place of elected officials. Since he has taken over, that has stopped and has been completely opened up for EVERYONE. What you’re doing is using any example of banning as fodder to cry about hypocrisy. Just a completely dishonest position

You’re a smart guy, and well respected on this board. But you following along with the leftist tactics of conflating and twisting narratives says everything

seriously though, why is this some kind of nuanced discussion when ELon is banning folks. But when people were getting 'censored' for doing racism and other bad stuff... oh there is nothing to discuss. Its almost like people enjoy having it both ways
 
Once again, I don't see the problem. Musk owns twitter, he can ban anyone he wants to. Just like they could ban Trump back in the day.

And if you believed him when he said that shit about free speech... Well, there's really no hope for you. What in Musk's past makes you think he would tolerate people disagreeing with him if he had the power to stop it?

I dont understand the point you are trying to make. He is completely full of shit when he made those free speech claims. Theres no denying it. Now hes outlawing cis as a slur. Why? Because he wants to control speech on his companies platform. I dont have a problem with it. However i never want to hear another peep about him serving some higher purpose as it pertains to free speech.

You just browse headlines and don't care to get the full details. No one is being suspended for using the term "cis". However, if they illegally harrass or threaten someone then they will be suspended.

He allows all speech as long as it's legal and the libs can't stand it.

Again i dont care what he allows. Its his business. He does t allow all speech as cis is not a slur word and it doesnt break any laws to use. Hes doing whatever he wants which is fine. The narrative is bullshit. Hes not abiding by some higher ethical position hes just making shit up as he goes.

No one is being suspended for using the word "cis". They will be temporarily suspended for repeated, targeted, harassment. They will not be blocked or deleted.

And we all know that Twitter will overtake the MSM if it hasn't already. Might as well be headlines. The MSM is a dying dinosaur.
