The democrats seem to be circling the wagon on a new storyline and the word oligarch keeps popping up.

Do democrats not remember the 100+ Billionaires that supported and donated to their party? Gates, Bezos, Cuckerberg, Soros, Koch’s, all supported the Democratic Party and you didn’t hear any concerns about oligarchy before.

Oligarchy implies no competition, but there is plenty of competition amongst our billionaires.

Just made a comment on another thread about this new TALKING POINT

Democrats love Billionaires when they support the liberal Democratic cause

If the billionaire supports Christian Conservative causes and principals they are against Democracy Demonic and are fear mongered and hated on

What else can I add to this truth

The good news is that the people are getting wiser and see through much of the BS talking points.

It's interesting how the conversation changes when there is no state sponsored censorship.

Does seem to be a new buzzword on the left. @firegiver was just using it in another thread. Maybe this will be the 2025 version of fascists or nazis? At least this is a bit less psychotic.
USA has been an oligarchy plutocracy for a long while. Now the veneer is off, billionaires are buying the government and consolidating power. Buckle up. haven't even bothered to watch Biden talk about it. But yah its an oligarchy, duh.

Yeah, the US being an oligarchy isn't anything new. In fact, MAGA has been chirping about it for a decade, they just confuse "Deep state" with "billionaires who control everything."

Now that they've got the richest man in the world on their "team", they don't really care, though.

Correct, don't expect us to change the rules just because we won. Your rules, we will play by them

Can you provide more specifics on 1) which DAs he funds and 2) what laws those DAs don’t enforce?

Thanks
Kimberly Fox in Chicago.

Several of the laws are not enforced. That is not me saying that, that is the chief of police in Chicago saying that.

AI:

Yes, Kimberly Foxx, the former prosecutor from Chicago, has received financial support from George Soros or his associated groups during her campaigns. George Soros donated significant amounts to political action committees (PACs) that supported her election and re-election efforts. Specifically, Soros contributed $400,000 to her 2016 campaign and $2 million to a PAC backing her in the 2020 election.

Good example. I do think that there has been a trend of Democrats donors supporting DAs that have decriminalized what they deem as petty crime, such as theft, and I think this is a mistake. There’s a way to support criminal justice reform without effectively legalizing shoplifting and other “minor” crimes. I do support her and other DAs that have pushed for reform of the bail process for non violent offenders.

I would argue that this does no more to “undermine the foundations of civilization” than a billionaire buying votes for a 34 time convicted felon and former President under investigation for election interference does.

To your first paragraph, Prop 36 which recently passed is a move in the right direction. Several local stories about how it’s already reduced the shoplifting here in Sacramento County.

The fabric of Chicago has changed due to these policies. Citizens do not feel safe downtown. State street, the center of the loop, has several store fronts that sit empty. Same on Michigan Avenue, one of the most famous shopping streets in the country. Foot traffic is a shell of what it was just 10 years ago. When i used to walk home from work, there were several thousand people on the street. Now, it is literally a ghost town when work is over.

Even my deep blue liberal democrat friends that live in the city, do not approve of Kim Foxx and her policies. They trash the no cash bail law that passed last year.

My police friends say the morale is at the lowest point that they can remember.

There are consequences to being soft on crime, and there is no better example than Chicago and San Francisco.

I consider myself a sane person who in serious conversations will be serious.

If you are watching the cabinet hearings in the Senate the Democrats are asking Questions that makes me think they need to be described as crazy and insane as the questions are all argumentized, theoretical, unproven allegations and just bizarre at times.

ask questions that matter to the health and well being of Americans

I can’t really relate to this. If you live in Chicago then I suppose I’ll take your word for it, but eery time I’ve been to Chicago over the last few years and visited those areas you reference I’ve felt safe at all hours of the day and experienced no issues at all. Always have a great time in Chicago, planning to visit again in May.
