So, among the long list of institutions we are going to burn to the ground, the US Postal Service is going down next?

Can someone explain what is happening with this and how this makes political sense, even if you only care about red state Trump voters and screw everyone else? Is hatred of the damn mail on the long list of right wing grievances I never knew existed? I genuinely am totally lost at this point.

They could just release a set of Trump stamps and get their funding I guess.

it's weird for sure. Not totally convinced we can't privatize this industry, but I don't have the expertise to really have an educated opinion.

I mean...sure. FedEx charges $11 to deliver a letter now and still relies on USPS for rural routes. But...is NOW the right time to be trying to solve THAT problem as a country? And how is pulling the rug out from under the one service that rural, red state elderly people are most familiar and most reliant on good politics?

I was just thinking Friday. I barely need the USPS. I’m sure there are still some that need it more. Those who don’t do everything electronically. And some things require physical delivery due to social norms, like wedding invitations and thank you notes.

But I get 10 items of junk for each real item. I could easily go to 2 or three days a week on mail. The world wouldn’t stop.

I don't mean to imply you are wrong, I just don't know. I will say I appreciate your input and I will reconsider my position with your input. Do we have links or evidence to the $11 dollar charge? I can see a reason for a public communications service.
