VP Harris meets Clemson Player

In Texas alone, the latest legislation is pushing for a ban on drive-thru voting, a reduction in early voting hours, and a ban on the distribution of mail-in ballot applications. there are some additions i don't hate, specifically requiring either the last 4 digits of your SSN or your DL # for mail in voting.

None of those existed before the pandemic. Things like that were put in place specifically for an election carried out during a pandemic and national state of emergency.

Compared to normal election years like 2016 and 2018, these laws make it easier to vote.

right, but if it worked fine for the pandemic why aren't we continuing them? they haven't found any widescale voter fraud in texas with these new rules in place, so why try to scale them back?

Because it's not necessary. Any process should strive to be as streamlined as possible to balance cost/time and minimize risk of error. Everyone has access, there is ample early voting, there is flexibility for those with inflexible work schedules, the burden of identification is exceedingly low. This isn't complicated. We don't need 50 ways to vote.

Why do we need to coddle people? We have to get out of this mindset that the government needs to bend over backwards to cater to lazy or incompetent people.

i'm waiting on my Soros check before i go back to looting and beating up cops

I don't care what you are doing. Your party just wants to cheat elections. Also, I don't see any reason to make it easier to vote than get an ID.

Show up in person. Present your ID and registration card and then cast your vote.

please. we should strive to make it as easy as possible to vote so as many citizens as possible vote in our elections. creating hurdles is just another way to depress voter turnout and is unamerican af. at least just be honest and say you want to make it more difficult because that way your side has a better chance of winning elections

Nobody is placing hurdles. Again, it will be easier to vote going forward than at any non-pandemic time in history.

But of course that’s your perspective. Just like you think it should be easy to get money from the government, and free healthcare from the government, and whatever else, all the while asking families like mine to pay for it.

Your side’s low opinion of an individual’s capabilities is in contrast to my opinion that people are completely capable of being self-sufficient and personally responsible.

Really man? Your thinking has gone from, we disagree on policy but agree on goals, to, "democrats think people are stupid, I think people are great".

I think it’s well-understood that one side philosophically believes in personal responsibility, self-sufficiency and individualism. While the other leans to governmental reliance and a belief that people need “help” from the government to succeed. I’m pointing out how that sentiment affects the perspective on these voting bills.

We did xyz to make voting easier in 2020 and it went off without a hitch - no widescale fraud has been found despite dozens of inquiries and lawsuits into it.

TXGOP is trying to remove those same voting practices despite them proving to be perfectly safe and effective. i wonder why?

calling it free healthcare just proves you don't know dick about what you're talking about and are just throwing out RW media talking points. your family, my family, and probably a sizable majority of this board's families are already paying for healthcare costs for those unfortunate enough to not have health insurance currently. i don't recall ever harping for UBI so, once again, you're misinformed.

it's not about having a low opinion on someone's capabilities; it's more about empathizing with their situation and understanding not everyone is able to take the time to go to a polling location, wait for hours to vote, and then go back about their day. especially with the fact that the GOP has been trying to decrease the amount of voting locations in urban areas for decades (i wonder who this disproportionately hurts?)

Again, these were emergency measures put in place for voting in the middle of a global pandemic. They were never intended to be permanent.

I do know "dick" about what I'm talking about. The left constantly wants to expand free stuff from the government, healthcare included. And yes, my family pays an outsized cost for healthcare for the poor. And I pay the ACA Medicare surcharge levied against families like mine the last time Biden held an executive office. And many in your party want to further expand healthcare - whether it's the popular Medicare-for-all proposal or something else - and will again ask me to pay more for it.

And money isn't just UBI. It could also be unnecessary stimulus checks or non-strategically deployed unemployment bonuses, using recent examples. Trump showed his colors when he attempted to ingratiate himself to the public with his $2K stimulus proposal. Buying votes with handouts is a democrat move, but this shows how sleazy politicians from both sides can be tempted by lazy policy.

Early voting and expanded hours are intended to alleviate work scheduling issues and disperse lines, reducing wait times. So your final point is being addressed. Everyone has access, there are more options to vote than at any non-pandemic time in history. Your party's perspective that people need coddling from the government is simply different from mine.
