Those combined with the 2004 GT debacle are three of the worst end of the game defensive debacles I've ever witnessed. I can't remember three more painful games than those. Well maybe Maryland 2006.
By comparison look at the end of 2014 Louisville game, 2012 Auburn, or the 2012 Orange Bowl. Great teams have defenses that make plays at the end of games to win the game. That's the small difference in college football between a winner and a loser.
I am so glad we do not have signal callers named Herring, Koennig or Steele on our sidelines anymore.
The pass coverage, inability to get to the QB, and just the overall inability to get a stop when a team needs a stop to win was so painful to relive. Yes, I love a high powered offense when it's rolling but the biggest difference I see in the Tigers today versus the Tigers of yesteryear is having a great DC and coaches that can make the right adjustments and calls and will a defense to make the big stop when the game is on the line.
Coach Venables is worth every penny we pay him.
