Release from Clemson:

Clemson, S.C.—Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson is one of 50 “Players to Watch” for its 2015 Walter Camp Football Foundation Player of the Year award. The list was released on Friday.

In all, 37 schools are represented on the watch list, including seven from the ACC. In addition to Watson, other ACC players include Jeremy Cash, DB, Duke; James Connor, RB, Pittsburgh; DeVon Edward, DB-KR, Duke; Kendall Fuller, DB, Virginia Tech, Everett Golson, QB, Florida State; Justin Thomas, QB, Georgia Tech.

Watson is one of four sophomore quarterbacks on the list. One of those is Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire. The two signal callers will be on opposite sides of the field when Notre Dame plays at Clemson on October 3.

Watson played in eight games last year for the Tigers, five as a starter (4-1). The native of Gainesville, Ga. completed 93-137 passes for 1466 yards and 14 touchdowns with just two interceptions. His 10.7 yards per attempt and 188.7 passing efficiency led the nation among players with at least 125 passes.

He was named the National Quarterback of the Week by the O’Brien Award last year for his performance against North Carolina. Making his first career start, Watson threw six touchdown passes to tie the ACC record and establish a Clemson record for scoring passes in a single game.
