WCU OLine coach dies

Calling people stupid or ignorant is not going to make anyone get vaccinated. I would also add that some people may be hesitant because early on elected officials said they would not take the shot since it was under the former POTUS. I am sorry to say but that puts doubt in my mind. I just do not think name calling or shaming is going to help the situation from either angle.
We are about to enter September and shots have been given to over 180 million Americans. There is an abundance of data on how the vaccine works and its effectiveness.

You letting yourself be swayed by a politician from November is honestly quite pathetic when it comes to this matter.

There has been enough hand holding to show people that vaccination is safe and important. If you continue to ignore that then yeah be prepared to be called ignorant or selfish.

I agree name calling is not helping. Listening to any elected official (either way) on a medical issue is also not helping.

I wish people just listened to what their primary physician said either way. More often than not it would be what Is correct for the individual patient.

The common goal needs to be knocking this down to a level people don’t often die or need to be hospitalized. it has to be a COMMON GOAL which seems increasingly difficult to land on nowadays.

Absolutely. In this way, Dabo's recent words on the subject ("I trust my doctor") should supersede whatever random article you saw posted to Facebook.

The only media voice I consistently pay attention to during this thing is Nate Silver because he is statistics-based and his takes are almost totally empirical. There's none of the click-bait, emotion-driven headlines/takes you see on both sides.

But far more than anything through this pandemic, I rely on what the medical folks are saying -- and largely the medical folks in my community.

The people in the ICUs, two of them close friends, are my boots on the ground. And in the last several weeks, the numbers of COVID patients and deaths have been overwhelmingly unvaccinated. And the same is true from folks I've communicated with down at MUSC in Charleston (almost 100 percent unvaxxed).

Yes, there are exceptions of course. But far too few for me to think vaccinations are a bad idea for the general populace.

Thanks for your thoughtful response. By the way.... Did I ever state if I was vaccinated or not?

I’m an idiot because I don’t wanna get vaccinated? Three people in my family have gotten the vaccine and we’re perfectly healthy beforehand and since then all three have been in amd out of the hospital with different Heath issues. To think someone is calling someone an idiot over a vaccine that hasn’t even been around a year yet and nobody knows what they will do to you. Am I also an idiot for not getting the flu shot? You sir can go **** your self.
Logic like this makes you sound dumb. I would personally post less

Man I am sorry for all the struggle you and your family have endured.

I am close friends with people who work in both the Oconee and Easley ICUs and the strain this is putting on them emotionally is immense. Just so many stories of unvaccinated people wishing they had another chance.
Larry...I am 110% convinced my wife having had a vaccination saved her from far worse symptoms. RA already causes pain when she breathes when at its' worst. Anyone that argues not to vaccinate shouldn't be allowed to drive. That could force the issue. If you're on public assistance, proof of self and all children vaccinated before another check. There's ways to enforce the idiots to vaccinate. I guess they could leave the country...but no country would allow them in. 😉

I was not listening to their advice. It was more of the fact that their comments made me feel like it was way too political. I may be wrong but it made me feel that way. They hated then. We have a change in Administration and that same vaccine is now being pushed by those same people. I trust DC as a whole less than I trust gas station Sushi.
It’s been political from the jump, and that’s made the problem worse, and caused even more political/societal friction for our country. There’s been mixed messages from the people in DC, but the people in Bethesda (NIH) and Atlanta (CDC) have been consistent in their recommendation to get vaccinated. Then again, many Americans prefer information from sources other than experts.

I am in no way saying to trust a crooked ass politician over a Dr. My point is when something so serious becomes a political football it leaves doubt in some people's minds. Be it right or wrong. I also have had Dr's tell me that being in good shape, eating correct, and working out are good ways to fight this as well. I agree that the messages from CDC have been like watching a game of ping pong.

I am very sorry to read of the passing of this young man.

Is there an announcement of whether or not he was vaccinated? Does anyone know if he had any pre-existing conditions? Also, vaccinated people are dying from COVID as well. Didn't know if anyone knew that.

My guess is if he never went to the doctor he was not vaccinated. I hate to break it to you but most of people dying are not vaccinated. Posts like this are because someone is trying to convince themselves not being vaccinated is OK. I’m all for choice. No one should have to be, but if you do have a choice I don’t understand why you would not be.

At this point I'm not sure what will convince the necks to get vaccinated.

It is a sad commentary that a thread about a football related covid death had to go to the Roundtable. We should collectively be much better than this. Quit the name calling, quit trying to convince people what they should do, and just express remorse for a young football coach dying way too early.

Wait people never got sick before having a vaccine? You might have cracked the case...

Ah yes. Absolutely no health issues. Ever. Must be coincidental then. My bad. I mean since we’ve eradicated the flu, common cold, sinus/respiratory infections, etc. I just figured she’d always continue to live a healthy life.

And you'll be looked at as the fool. If you are good with that then carry on.
As long as my business continues growing and my life thriving I quite frankly don’t give a crap if your think I’m a fool. Feelings mutual though because I’m thinking the same about you

And yet here you are, trying to debate me and failing miserably. Sure bud, you don't give a crap.

You've incorrectly linked a vaccine to illness that your family has, and you've incorrectly stated the vaccine hasn't been around for a year when it was actually being given in March/April of 2020.

You have no factual evidence to stand on and thus have failed. Thanks for playing and take a lap.

Lmao I have facts about the vaccine causing ill to my family and just because you don’t believe it doesn’t mean hit to me. I’ll live my life how I want and you can live yours how you want. I’m not playing with you and absolutely not gonna take a lap. But if you wanna meet up at a Wachovia we can play a game for sure.

Incredibly less often than those that are vaccinated. Once boosters are being administered you’ll likely see the already low numbers of hospitalized and vaccinated drop significantly
Agreed. As the link I used showed... even death among unvaccinated is dropping as well.

Posts like what? Like asking if there were other conditions, asking if he was actually vaccinated? Pointing out that nothing is 100%?

And my medical history, vaccination status is none of your business... nor should it be anyone with the exception of me and my doc. And yes, I listen to the medical professionals, and my family and I have made decisions that align with what our docs tell us.

I just don't know where all of this animosity has come from... and from rational people.

Get the vaccine. If it is in your best interest to do so... get it.
But there is nothing wrong with asking questions on the reporting of how a young man died from it... there is nothing sinister or ignorant about asking for more information. Nothing wrong with posting/stating facts as to this epidemic.

And if you are really concerned about your health. (and not you per se, but people in general). LOSE WEIGHT. Stop drinking so much, exercise often, eat healthy... and stay off message boards 24/7.

Well said. I do think intent is impactful here. If you are asking was he vaccinated or did he have an underlying health condition because you genuinely want to know the person and situation better, that is one thing. If you are doing so to simply provide more evidence to make light of the fact that his cause of death was Covid….well that’s not okay and is insulting to his loved ones.

And you forgot turn off the news….that should have been step 1

Yes, there are exceptions of course. But far too few for me to think vaccinations are a bad idea for the general populace.

My thoughts on it now are somewhat guided by my Clemson roommate, who is now a pulmonary specialist who has treated about a thousand COVID patients in the ICU in one of the Houston hospital systems. He says the current situation is FAR , FAR worse than anything to date. He says this variant is a game changer. 90% of the most serious cases are not vaccinated. Like Larry said, it’s easier for me to trust him and my local provider to guide my choices than someone on a national news broadcast.

Plus, we are raising two small grandkids and have to consider the impact on them of our choices. They don’t have the option to be vaccinated or not so we have to take into account their well-being as we decide our course.

Like shooting fish in a barrel. Too easy.

A whole lot of Jackasses in this thread. Everyone showing great empathy and sadness for a dude they never met. And the same jackasses dog piling on one of our own has has chosen to opt out because his family memebers have suffered serious health issues from the vaccine. No empathy for that guy let’s just shame him . What a bunch of Douches you are. @TigerBo413 chances are anytime @TheValley91 takes a position on a topic……….the opposite is true.

Over ninety percent of those who are seriously ill, hospitalized, or die from covid are unvaccinated. I had covid in december , but still got the j and j vaccine in March. If people would get vaccinated , we would not even be having this conversation. ... I doubt if he was vaccinated. I asked the same question earlier. Statistically, he probably was not. Additionally, his fiance released statements for people to get vaccinated. If he had died vaccinated, then i think she would have been more likely to cry out that his vaccine did not work and-or that vaccines are useless. Sounds to me like he was not vaccinated.

he died way too early ,and seems like he was on a good path. Feel so much for his fiance and his parents and his family. I wish he had been vaccinated. We are seeing more and more of this.

@Larry_Williams ....it hits home for me. My brother is in rehab because of a stroke after escaping death with blood lots. His doctor has told my youngest brother that's at Anderson Hospital he shouldn't have lived. Now .. after the stroke(and possibly a second) he looks great but you can barely understand a word he says.

My wife has been extremely sick with. Covid. The only saving grace is SHE WAS VACCINATED. And I am still recuperating from Covid. Thank God I WAS VACCINATED. I can't fathom the stupid argument a moron has with himself when you observe first hand and read all the negatives of NOT be vaccinated. It's got to be along the lines of Abbott and Costello's Whose on First. SMH.

When you're alone with Covid in a hospital and right before they put you out and on a respirator, wtf will you say? I wish I HAD BEEN VACCINATED. Too late.
If you guys had a tough time with covid despite your vaccinations, it is safe to assume you would have had it even worse without them. Thank goodness.

Actually, not really the hospitals are filling up with unvaccinated. Over 90% of the hospitalizations are unvaccinated.
Thank you. I dont understand where the misinformation is coming from that more vaccinated than unvaccinated are in the hospitals. Where ? I would be interested, at least for a moment of entertainment , to see the source. And then how can any thinking person with half an IQ fall for it? There are college graduates on this board that are spewing this crap.

Same here. My MIL has never been sick in her life and is now having complications with fluid buildup in her lungs, after being vaccinated earlier this year. She’s been in and out of the hospital for 2 months no
IMO it is a personal choice, but I will say the science behind the mRNA vaccines is newer but has been around prior to COVID.
The science behind this vaccine has been around for twenty years. hence as to its warp speed development.

One of my anti-vaxxer employees said she will never get the vaccine. Her dad was never sick a day in his life. He got the vaccine. Two months later he had kidney stones. So the kidney stones must have come from the vaccine she said. Makes sense to somebody somewhere.

Sounds like you didnt get the vaccine.

I'm so sorry to hear this happened. I'm also sorry to see people treating each other this way. The moment his o2 dropped he should have been in the hospital. This virus can create a huge mess and it hits your system in so many ways. He was overweight (like I am) and that is a serious extra risk layer.

One thing I really hope that will come from all this is that we need a public health campaign in this country to deal with obesity. We also need to deal with the toxic food we're getting from all this massive food companies. At some point, we have to demand these basic things. Nothing is going to bring this gentleman back. But hopefully people will read this and realize if you have risk factors, you need to get the vaccine. I understand having reservations but let me tell you the after effects you feel from Covid are significant.

All, my whole family tested positive Thursday. My wife and I are fully vaccinated and have basically had bad cold symptoms for the past week. I do believe that we are okay because we did the vaccine.

We got the virus on vacation because we had a false sense of security and did not mask up in restaurants, etc. Please stay safe out there.
If all you suffered was common cold symptoms, then the vaccine did what it was designed to do. And you got to go on vacation and enjoy yourselves with no lockdowns or restrictions. Win win.
