And that is not a good thing. It's pretty rotten f*cking timing to be honest, but such is life. Anyway, don't know who needs to hear this, but the previous great awakenings in this country saw a massive, abrupt increase in religious zealotry (evangelism), and a major departure from reason by those swept up in it. Things will settle back down, but unfortunately I believe there are now 10s of millions hellbent on civil war. Even more unfortunately, they're the ones armed to the teeth.
They believe this country has been stolen from them, and it is my belief that they are going to try and take it back. That coup attempt on Jan 6 was just the first try. Their attempts will get more sophisticated and refined. It almost sounds noble until you factor in the part about them being Nazis. If you want an analogous example, we are living through a perilously similar time to 1930s Germany. Those brownshirts marching across the UVA campus with torches in 2017 should've made the hairs on the back of everyone's necks stand up.
Trump is going to run again in 2024. If he wins, he'll try to become dictator for life. If he loses, he has literal armies ready to take to the streets. This country is so f*cked, that in my opinion, we're better off if he wins. How's that for being between a rock and a hard place?
