Wednesday Insider Notes
By: Paul Strelow

With the quarterback for this recruiting class in the boat, Clemson offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter can turn his attention to investing in recruiting for his 2024 targets.

That manifested Tuesday in Streeter traveling to Texas for a top-10 national prospect.

Willis (Texas) high-four star rising junior quarterback DJ Lagway drew a school stop from Streeter, per Tigerillustrated.com sources.

Lagway (6-3, 190), ranked No. 7 overall by Rivals.com, owns offers from Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and LSU among numerous others. His father, Derek, played running back at Oregon from 1997-2001.

He has already given reason to think his recruitment will take on more of a national flavor, as Lagway took visits in the spring to Bama, Oklahoma, UGA, Florida, Texas A&M, Baylor and Arkansas.

Lagway checked out Clemson a month ago on the Friday before the Tigers' spring game.

We are told Streeter spent more than an hour at Willis on Tuesday talking to Lagway's coaches. He is expected to return next week to watch a Willis spring practice.

As we've documented, Lagway is slated to be back at Clemson next month to throw at a session of the Dabo Swinney Camp.

**** We've informed subscribers that Clemson is locked onto Alpharetta (Ga.) St. Francis four-star Branden Strozier and Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage four-star Damari Brown as leading cornerback targets.

A new name quickly gaining traction that might be worth stashing away is Kissimeee (Fla.) Osceola's Ja'Keem Jackson.

Jackson (6-1, 173) has seen the complexion of his recruitment change in a matter of days and hours.

Alabama and UGA both offered Tuesday after having assistant coaches from those schools watch his practice. Auburn responded with an offer today.

He visited Tennessee, UCF and USF in the spring. The field has changed quickly, with Miami and Penn State having offered two weeks ago.

Jackson told us that Clemson was among the schools he grew up watching, along with Bama and UGA.

We can tell you the Tigers are aware of him but have yet to reach out.

**** Among the school rounds Wednesday, tight ends coach and area recruiter Kyle Richardson made a stop at Charlotte (N.C.) West Charlotte, new home to four-star running back Daylan Smothers.

As Clemson's staff surveys running back candidates for this class, readers have asked a few times about Smothers, who transferred last month from Cornelius (N.C.) Chambers.

The Tigers haven't shown much interest to date in Smothers, who attended Clemson's victory against FSU in late October.

We would speculate that Smothers' transfer, although believed compelled by residency and eligibility reasons, benefits N.C. State in his recruitment.
