Weekend Insider Recruiting Notes
By: Paul Strelow
Clemson claimed a pair of commitments after the spring game, and we have foreshadowed the Tigers being on the cusp of more to come.
As you know, Washington (D.C.) St. John College four-star defensive end David Ojiegbe plans to announce his destination Wednesday. Tigerillustrated.com projected Ojiegbe to Clemson immediately following his spring game visit.
A potentially significant weekend ahead, and one target we would circle is Alpharetta (Ga.) St. Francis four-star cornerback Branden Strozier.
Strozier (6-2, 175) took in Clemson's spring game on April 9, two weeks after going to a Tennessee spring practice.
We have characterized those as the two lead schools in his recruitment, and his final two for that matter. Intel gathered this week strengthened that stance.

Strozier is slated to be at Clemson's official visit weekend June 3-5. But recall we quoted him expressing the expectation to have rendered his verdict before that point.
Just know there exists the possibility the Tigers can advance their cause in short order, per our sources.
Something we have our eye on.
**** Clemson's coaches have hit the road the last two days to christen their spring evaluation period travels.
As we foreshadowed, there's not a lot to see right now. So we would tell you the majority of the Tigers' initial efforts have been local, specifically in-state.
This has been especially the case with the new full-timers on staff, including defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin and defensive tackles coach Nick Eason.
Eason has inherited the pocket outside of Columbia -- Orangeburg, Bamberg and that vicinity -- held by most of his defensive line predecessors.
Goodwin assumed former coordinator Brent Venables' territory in several counties surrounding Clemson.
It's a relationship business. So in lieu of spring practices to observe, this is the opportune time to plant the in-state seeds.
**** We referenced it above and wrote about it in this morning's mailbag as well. But an important weekend with a pair of offensive line targets attending Notre Dame's spring game in Mount Pleasant (S.C.) Oceanside Collegiate four-star tackle Monroe Freeling and Belmont (N.C.) South Point four-star Sullivan Absher.
This is Notre Dame's chance to slow Clemson's momentum with Absher, while the Irish are the Tigers' longstanding competition for Freeling -- whose recruitment remains more open.
Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek four-star safety target Caleb Downs and Austin (Texas) Westlake four-star receiver candidate Jadon Greathouse are expected to be there as well.
In other notable visits elsewhere, Fairfax (Va.) four-star linebacker target Tony Rojas headlines Penn State's spring game guest list. McDonough (Ga.) ELCA four-star line offer Zechariah Owens is slated to be there as well.
Coppell (Texas) four-star corner target Braxton Myers is reportedly lined up to be back at USC for its spring game, with the Trojans standing as Clemson's chief threat as we've characterized.
Columbus (Ga.) Carver four-star defensive end target Darron Reed will be at LSU's spring game.
