I'd love to see some statistical analysis on rugby punting and fumbles/muffs compared to regular punts.
It seems like, on the surface, it's a no brainer to punt rugby style. I would think that about one out of five punts would either:
A) peg the other team in the back allowing for a free ball
B) a wobbly ball causing a muffed punt
The only negative I could think is if you get lucky and catch one on the run, the coverage team may not be set up allowing for a good return. But, a turnover on a punt is so valuable, it seems well worth the risk. Especially in our current situation where we don't have a guy who can just boom a punt.
Any thoughts on this style?
