What would the outcome of yesterday's game have been if we had picked up players in the portal like Cryin Shane has at these positions?
I still don't think their team is anything special, but the point is that by being the only team apart from service academies to negotiate this new climate with one hand tied behind our backs, we have opened ourselves up to constantly being in dogfights with teams who are nothing special because we are no longer anything special ourselves.
It's honestly very sad to see Dabo take us to the mountaintop and then see his hubris push us right back down the other side. Maybe some of that feeling can be mitigated by winning this weekend and backdooring our way into the CFP, but that sinking feeling has enveloped this program now, and it starts at the top. I just hate that he is apparently the only one who can't see it.
We went from winning 2 of 3 natties to losing 2 of 3 to a bum program that was left in an absolute ditch by Will Muschamp. Meanwhile we're going to have a recruiting class that will struggle to break 50 in Dabo's 16th full year as head coach while Cryin Shane controls our state and we no longer have the juice to recruit nationally. Someone will write a book one day about the myopia and hubris that enabled Dabo's program to disintegrate in front of the entire world. He has been given every resource possible during his stint here and has deserved to receive them, but I fear he's getting the karma he deserves in certain other ways now, too.
I don't say any of this with malice. I will always treasure the good old days he brought us. We scaled heights I never thought possible. His undoing is a sad spectacle, and we're all just along for the ride on the way down, too.
- a DE as good as Kennard
- a LB as good as Knight
- a RB as good as Rocket
- a second RB as well
- a TE as good as Simon (leads their team in receiving yards)
- (there are others they have as well)
