I go back and forth on what has been worse for human civilization … the cable news and the 24 Hour news cycle OR social media.

I've thought about this a lot, too. I think they're probably equally shitty and are separately affecting the majority of the country. Cable news/24hr cycle is going to primarily affect your older generations, say 40+, and all the issues that come from social media are going to primarily affect the younger generations. That's not to say that the inverse isn't also true, but i imagine the majority of those demographics are primarily affected in the ratios above.

Just sucks … because the “idea” for both are/were great and then they were hijacked by bad actors. I don’t even know how or if it can be fixed without … dare I say … “A ministry of truth”.

Pulling from my Singapore comment yesterday, one thing that was “bizarre” about Singapore is that their media is state run and the “messaging” is everywhere and the residents quote the accepted “narrative” in just casual conversation. It was just bizarre to be having a casual conversation about grocery shopping, which turned to single use plastic bags, to one of my coworkers saying “yes need to get rid of the plastic bags to combat climate change”. It was just bizarre and unnatural how that comment was worked into the conversation … well bizarre and unnatural to an American.

Also I saw “Logan” in the theater while I was there, and instead of pre-movie ads like we have here, they had messages from the Ministry of Health, Ministry or this and that ….

But some spin doctor/propagandists, chasing social media relevance tweets bullshit that implies something different than the actual discussion and you Maga dumbasses just lap it up without probably listening to what was actually said. Feels like its the marriage of the two that has done the real damage. The need for cable news stations to create soundbites that will get clicks on social media causes them to have to continuously escalate the hyperbole and distance from the truth.

Isn't that referred to as cultural appropriation? I didn't know for sure, so I did a search on the interwebs.

According to Wikipedia and Britannica, this appears to be a much greater problem when a majority group does this to a minority group.
