With Nick Saban’s retirement, I continue to be interested in the historical aspect of Dabo’s career thus far. He has now completed his 15th full season at Clemson. Some historical perspective on what Clemson has accomplished during his tenure (2009-2023):

10 Win Seasons (all teams who have won titles plus a few other notables)

Alabama - 15
Ohio State - 13
Clemson - 12
Oklahoma -11
Georgia -10
Oregon - 10
FSU - 8
LSU - 8
Notre Dame - 8
Oklahoma St -8
Wisconsin - 8
Michigan - 7
Penn St - 6
Florida - 5
Iowa - 5
USC - 5
Auburn - 3

Programs with most wins/best win pct
  1. Alabama (187-21, .899, 6 titles)
  2. Ohio St (168-27, .862, 1 title)
  3. Clemson (165-40, .805, 2 titles)
  4. Georgia (158-45, .778, 2 titles)
  5. Oklahoma (153-44, .777)
  6. Oregon (147-47, .758)
  7. LSU (143-51, .737, 1 title)
  8. Notre Dame (138-54, .719)
  9. Oklahoma St (139-56, .713)
  10. Wisconsin (139-56, .713)
  11. Michigan (132-58, .695, 1 title)
  12. FSU (134-60, .691, 1 title)
  13. Penn St (130-60, .684)
  14. TCU (128-63, .670)
  15. Iowa (126-66, .656)
28. Auburn (118-76, .608, 1 title)

Hard to argue Dabo’s place historically, again. Not too many schools you’d trade the last 15 years with. Alabama is the clear-cut #1. Ohio St has a slight edge in total wins, win pct, and 10-win seasons but we have one more title. I’m guessing they’d trade places. Georgia has two titles but slightly less wins and 10-win seasons. You could debate it, but Clemson is clearly a top four program in the last 15 years and has a strong argument for #2 behind only Alabama.

After reading Larry and Paul’s articles, here’s hoping Dabo is re-energized for another 15 years!
