There are two significant issues as I see it.
1. Not using the portal. (yes yes everyone knows)
2. The significant lack of development from the coaching staff.
Dabo said tonight we didnt lose to Duke because of the portal. OK thats fair. But I think we did lose because of a lack of talent development and preparation.
The portal has already been discussed at length and people are using it as a crutch and catch all problem solver. However we should only speak of it as a tool to for talent acquisition to plug holes of deficient units where the coaches have missed on prospects (an inevitability).
But honestly what is more concerning is the complete lack of experience and on the job training of the staff.
RB coach- Spiller- ZERO previous coaching experience
OL coach- Austin- FCS coaching experience for 2 years
WR coach- Grisham- ZERO coaching experience
TE coach/passing cord- Richardson- High school coaching experience before being brought on to Clemson.
Defensive coordinator- Godwin- ZERO coaching or playing experience
Like are we being serious. Is this honestly acceptable? People are saying the portal is the main issue. I think it is secondary to coaching.
