Clemson has gone to Appalachian State's commitment list, as well as a familiar school, to steal a late addition for this class.

Rome (Ga.) safety Joe Wilkinson announced his commitment Tuesday to the Tigers.

Tigerillustrated.com issued its projection for Wilkinson to Clemson in our Monday Insider upon unveiling him as a new name for this cycle.

Wilkinson (6-1, 185) committed to Appalachian State last April over offers from Liberty, Memphis, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville State, East Carolina, Miami (Ohio) and UNLV.

He then revealed in a social media post Sunday that he was backing out of his pledge.

We reported that safeties coach Mickey Conn had first come by the school two weeks ago to initiate the process for Clemson offering.

Wilkinson was the defensive player of the year in his 6A region.

Last year, Clemson nabbed four-star defensive tackle Stephiylan Green from his high school.

This also marks the second App State commitment the Tigers have snagged within the last month, joining Central (S.C.) Daniel legacy lineman Watson Young.

Wilkinson gives Clemson 19 commitments for its class.
