Meh... I don't see what the big deal is about the dog myself. If the dog is killing livestock and you are worried about it biting people, it has to be put down. Period. That's not a nice thing, but it's the fact of the matter. I can also understand not taking it into town and paying $100+ to have it done. She gets a full pass on this from me.
That being said, it's NOT a nice thing. In fact it's pretty nasty and one of the hard parts about life on a farm/ranch. This is something you do b/c you HAD to, not b/c you wanted to. It represents personal failure on the owner's part. It's almost certainly NOT the dog's fault... that lies with the owner. And taking the fact that you took an animal that trusts you completely out back and put a bullet in it's head is NOT something you use to prove what a bad ass you are.
