Wes Goodwin and Nick Eason are now million-dollar coaches.

Clemson's Board of Trustees just approved raises that put Goodwin's annual salary at $1.4 million and Eason's at $1.1 million.

Goodwin, who's been Clemson's defensive coordinator for two seasons, was previously making $850,000 a year. Eason's previous salary was $800,000.

The other big bumps have already happened, as new assistants Matt Luke and Chris Rumph received salaries of $975,000 and $950,000, respectively.

That's an $850,000 increase over what Luke's and Rumph's predecessors made as offensive line coach and defensive ends coach.

The salary for offensive coordinator Garrett Riley remained the same at $2.05 million.

The other five assistants on Dabo Swinney's staff received raises of $100,000 apiece:

Mike Reed to $900,000;

Mickey Conn to $900,000;

Kyle Richardson to $600,000;

Tyler Grisham to $550,000;

C.J. Spiller to $550,000.

In addition, a year was added to the contract of longtime strength coach Joey Batson (through January of 2027).

After the departures of Brent Venables and Tony Elliott in December of 2021, the combined salary for Swinney's assistants ranked just outside the Top 10 nationally.

The new deals put the aggregate number back inside the Top 5.

For Goodwin, who was a support staffer under Venables, it's been quite the rise in financial stature.

Before he was promoted to defensive coordinator to replace Venables, Goodwin was making $108,000 a year.

Clemson finished eighth nationally in total defense last season, allowing 287.8 yards per game. The Tigers also finished eighth in pass defense, a vast improvement from 76th in Goodwin's first season.

There was no change to Swinney's contract, even after he received interest from Alabama and Texas A&M for their head-coaching vacancies.

Nick Saban's retirement made Swinney the highest-paid coach in college football at $10.8 million annually.

Second on the list is Georgia's Kirby Smart at $10.7 million.
