Gamecocks - Spring Update: OFFENSE
By: Perry McCarty - Gamecock Scoop
There is plenty of “coach speak” this time of year and with limited access to practice, it is sometimes difficult to decipher what is truly being said. However some of the same names keep popping up no matter who is being interviewed.
Rocket Sanders was already being held out due to precautionary measures and now Juju McDowell will miss the rest of the spring. That leaves Oscar Adaway, Jawarn Howell, and DJay Braswell as the only scholarship running backs at this time. While there have been multiple positive reports about Adaway and Howell, coach Beamer mentioned Braswell had a strong offseason, but still needs to progress.
Former wide receivers coach Justin Stepp developed 4th year senior Josh Vann, 5th year senior Xavier Legette, and landed elite transfer Juice Wells. That being said, he did not develop any of the freshmen he recruited while at Carolina. It will be on new wide receivers coach Mike Furrey to buck that trend.

QUARTERBACK
It is mostly a two man race between LaNorris Sellers and Robby Ashford. Walk-on transfer Davis Beville is getting an opportunity at first team reps during the spring, but unless he is able to separate himself from the pack, it’ll be Sellers and Ashford battling it out come the fall. When receiver Gage Larvadain was asked about the QB/WR connection his first response was “we’re working on it.” Not exactly what Carolina fans may want to hear, but also expected at this point.RUNNING BACK

WIDE RECEIVER
The same names keep coming up at this position - Gage Larvadain, Jared Brown, and Tyshawn Russell. Nyck Harbor will not physically practice during the spring as he is focusing on track and such a scenario will likely stunt his development as a receiver. That is not ideal as the Gamecocks are hurting for bigger bodies at the position. Redshirt freshmen Elijah Caldwell and CJ Adams have the needed size, but have yet to make much of an impact. Carolina will likely have some portal movement at this position post spring.Former wide receivers coach Justin Stepp developed 4th year senior Josh Vann, 5th year senior Xavier Legette, and landed elite transfer Juice Wells.
