I always tell people it’s incredibly hard for any program to win a national title. Saban is just skewing our perception.
Notre Dame hasn’t won a title since 1988.
Michigan has 1/2 national titles since 1948.
Ohio State went from 1968 until 2002 without winning a national title.
Alabama won one national title from 1979 until Saban’s first in 2009.
Oklahoma has won one national title since 1985.
Texas has won one national title since 1969.
Southern Cal went from 1978 until 2003 (and both of those were split).
Nebraska hasn’t won a title since 1997 (split).
Those are just the generally accepted blue bloods. Schools such as Georgia, LSU, Auburn had long droughts as well.
There’s a lot more that goes into being a blue blood than simply winning national titles. It’s an absolute accomplishment to win even one and shouldn’t be taken lightly.
