How to make the best of the current mess

It is pretty straight forward.

SEC goes to 20 and brings in Clemson, FSU, Louisville and Georgia Tech.

For Clemson this works. We were originally in the SoCon with many of these teams. We have major rivals there. SC. Georgia. Auburn is a bit of a rival. Our mascot and colors, first head coach came from Auburn. Our four best coaches not named Heisman - Neely, Howard, Ford, Swinney, all came from Alabama. We recruit mainly against UGA, Auburn, Tennessee, SC and Alabama. From Clemson you can drive to SC, UGA, Tennessee and Auburn in less than four hours. It is a natural fit.

For the SEC, they are now not just the dominant league and the unquestioned best of the SouthEast US in football, but not also the unquestionable conference champion of rivalries. On the last Saturday of the year they rolled with:

Clemson SC
UGA GT
Florida Florida St
KY Louisville
Auburn Alabama
Ole Miss Miss St
Texas Texas A&M
Tennessee Vandy
Mizzou Arky
LSU Oklahoma

They also have Alabama Tennessee, Auburn Georgia, Clemson Georgia, Florida Georgia, Texas Oklahoma... good stuff.

Then, UNC, Duke, and UVA should go to the Big Ten. That gives them 20. All three are AAU members. They can help in hoops and have great lacrosse league:)

Wake, Miami, NCSU, VT should go to the Big Twelve. That puts them at 20. Good football brands.

Pitt, Syracuse and BC to the American. These old Big East, Northeast teams have to go somewhere. They are also "city" schools.

Everyone ends up where they probably belong. The Big 12 is a good and interesting league. Big Ten gets to move further into the Mid Atlantic and some growth areas the line stops in the RDU area.

Some people will blurt about Miami but they are smallish private school that can barely sell 30k season tickets and can't average 55k in attendance. They fit right in with NCSU and VT and they have not won jack squat in the last 20 years. VT has more league titles last 20 years than they do. Wake has better facilities.

It will never happen but it all makes a good bit of sense.
