We always tailgated in Lot 8 (next to the Shoeboxes) but were forced out when it cost over $5K per year to stay in. I get it—supply and demand—but here is where I am worried: Will we kill the golden goose ourselves by not competing like every other school?
Our not competing like every other school COULD lead us to field teams like last year on a more consistent basis. If that is the case, that MIGHT lead to other donors saying, "I am not going to pay this much for a slightly above-average product.
Moving to another conference will help, for sure, but I am worried that the product will not be as good as it used to be and that folks will stop paying top dollar for it. We have to keep fueling the matching with top athletes. I am also worried that if we develop those solid three and four star players, other teams will just poach them. Good thing that we do pay those that are here.
Just a thought.
