Harper is at Daniel High School in 1983-84 and Georgia takes significant interest in him.
Vince Dooley comes to two of his games and offers.
Then he commits to the Bulldogs.
That night his father, Clemson defensive line coach Tom Harper, gets home and says: "You committed to Georgia?"
JC: "Yes."
Dad: "Why?"
JC: "Dad, Coach Dooley came to two of my games."
Dad: "Son, I've been to all of your games."
JC: "But you're my Dad. You're supposed to come to my games."
The next day, JC is in English class and gets called to the front office. Danny Ford is waiting.
"Son, let's go for a ride," Danny says.
They go to Mac's and eat lunch. Then they go to the old Holiday Inn and visit some of the folks there.
On the way back to the high school, Ford says: "Did you enjoy yourself today?"
JC says, "Yes sir."
Danny says: "Son, I want to tell you something. If you go to Georgia and come back to these places at Christmas break or summer, they ain't going to look at you the same way. Because you'll be a Bulldog and not a Tiger."
And that was that. JC went to Clemson.
Going to post the full interview with JC in podcast form at some point soon. It's great stuff.
